Yes it can be any Saint.
When the child goes their conformation they will have the choice of choosing which ever Saint they like or keeping the one you pick out for them.
The purpose of choosing a Saint name is for inspiration, because of the way the Saints lived there lives.

are you looking to choose a name for your child of a saint?! choosing a saint as a representative of ones moral goals is done once a child is older and in (usually) 7th grade at confirmation.

Usually the Saint is chosen at Confirmation but, anyway it can be any Saint.

i dont think it has to be a saint. i was christnd patricia, which is after patrick but i dont think its that strict. even at confirmation, i remember that it would have been frownd on if u didnt pick a saint but it wasnt set in stone either

some years back it was the saint of the day the child was born, but that lead to very strange names...nowadays people dont want their children to be named "wenceslaus" or "hermenegilde" so they decide whatever name they like.
