eMule is a derivative of eDonkey, which is both a P2P filesharing client, and a filesharing protocol (eDonkey 2000, i.e. eD2K) The protocol is optimized toward shorter files (i.e. MP3 files of about 2-10 megs) and does not handle large files that well. It is also known for extremely long queues (it's not unheard of to have a queue of 1000+ users waiting for a download).

HyperMule, is, as the name suggests, a derivative of eMule.
