Richard

I didn't think I came across as Anti - War

Wars are a necessary Evil - even Jesus Fought to throw men out of the temple

My point was useless deaths when the war is over will have been shown to be justified - Viet Nam was NOT

I do. More than I want to remember, all young guys just opened the envelope and went to do their duty. I know someday I will awaken on a sunny shore, my legs will be back and I will be with them in heaven.

My father is a Vietnam Combat Veteran who served with the 9th Infantry in Cambodia, 1st Calvary Division in Nam, 3rd Armored in Germany. He did 4 tours in combat and it ruined his life for the most part. He thinks of it everyday, although mostly he thinks of the good times he had over there. Recently he connected with some of the men he served with over in Vietnam. But it's almost not like a good thing though, because he starts to vividly remember some of the battles he fought in.
Yes, Vietnam was worse than the war going on at the moment, my father knew of at least 5 kids that he grew up with that died over there. His best friend ditched him and joined the Air Force. He has never received help from the Veteran's Affairs, although I think he should. I think the older he get's, the more he thinks he did wrong over there. He did what he had to, to survive. My father was spit on when he came home, unlike the soldiers before and after who came home to a heroes welcome. All soldiers are heroes and should be recognized.
This war is different, fought on many fronts, and probably will come over here as soon as she is elected president. Terrorists don't agree with our way of life, and are willing to pay the ultimate price to show us that. Maybe we should be ready to protect it.

I do.

Been to that web site and the real one in DC twice. My cousin SSG Larry Houston Cooke died 19 APR 69 (26w line 7). Back then they were called booby traps. Was a doctored up 155 round. He is just inside the gates at Presido SF National Cemetery. There is a nice write up about him on the 173rds site. The 173rd has a virtual wall of their own, lot's of nice notes posted there for many guy's.

In response to Richard, most of the troops in Vietnam did not choose to enlist. You are probably too young to remember the draft, that forced men to go into the military. Maybe we do need a draft just to remind us how close we all are to having family members and friends forced into harms way for no reason.

Fight the terrorist, but don't make up bogus reason to attack a country.
