This is going to probably be a gross generalization, but most people in the U.S. are poor due to a lack of education. Lack of education leads to only low-paying jobs, which has poverty as its end result. A lack of education also goes hand-in-hand with an inability to exercise critical thinking skills. Those who are thoughtful people, whether formally educated or self-educated, tend to put much more thought into everything they choose to do, and they tend to make smarter choices. Those who are poorly educated tend to make poor or thoughtless choices, and that includes blind following of repressive religions which condemn birth control, as well as more chauvinistic beliefs as to male-female roles in the family structure (keep the wife at home, in the kitchen, barefoot and pregnant), and the ignorance of the fact that this planet has become seriously overpopulated.
People with a greater education tend to take seriously the concepts of population control, as well as have a higher tendency to be willing to adopt orphan children.
At least, that's my take on it.

Is this a fact? Does she have statistics to back this up?
If so, ask her if the statistics have anything to do with ethnicity rather than wealth?
For example, if Japanese-American (making this part up) people tend to have more children and they also happen to be poor....is the number of children they have related to lack of money or because their culture or ethic background supports or encourages large families?
You see where I am going with this? Ask your teacher that question. Ask her what the empirical (research) evidence is, that ties money with number of kids?
I don't think there is one...there are more factors involved. Point that out in your class. This should provoke some thought and other questions. The teacher may also be impressed with your "deeper thinking". (-;
(Either that or he/she will be miffed because you challenged the question....it all depends...)

Children are expensive!!!!!!!!
In MANY cases money is the most important thing to rich people, having a child would get in their way to the top and once they get there they only want 1 or 2- because isn't that the American Dream after all?? 1.5 well-behaved children wearing little preppy sweaters doing their homework at the expensive table in the expensive house with the expensive landscaping in an expensive neighborhood?
Alot of people are selfish and see bringing more lives into the world an inconvenience to their social life, work life, and not to mention their physical body..
( I remember when Britney Spears first got pregnant a girl in my cosmetology class saying, "WHY would she do that? Now she ruined her body!" How ignorant and horrible...)

We discover that one of the vital most powerful colleges in Canada are rural colleges practically medium sized towns. This does now not look to be a effect of better tuition budgets almost up to it has to do with the angle of mum and dad, their curiosity in what the children are finding out, their concentration to maintaining forward of the homework plan, their encouragement of additional studying. It most likely does support to have the typical schooling degree of the mum and dad practically first measure, however oddly the universities are funded on a formulation that doesn't enable for preferential medication for those colleges. It most likely does support having near entry to fine library amenities of the town, entry to its school, its cultural amenities. But we need to marvel why colleges within the towns aren't forward of the agricultural colleges close by way of. They have even less difficult entry to these amenities, and their tuition funds does now not need to quilt the rate of transporting youngsters to tuition. The huge change among the agricultural tuition and the city tuition might be too many distractions within the town, or it might be that a number of the town pupils have households that don't care as strongly approximately schooling. It must be famous that the variety of efficiency in each settings overlaps the variety of the opposite atmosphere. But our lecturers let us know that the huge contributor is the attitudes of the households. When the academic method isn't closely weighted in opposition to one organization, might be they reply by way of imagining that they can also excel.

I believe that people have more children, because it promotes a family atmosphere, and some people enjoy large families. It's also true that a child with a brother or sister has someone to play/grow with, which helps social interaction.
They understand sharing better, it's not all about them.

Poor people tend to be poorly educated and make poor decisions about their life and their future.
The ones who get educated, make smart decisions (and personal sacrifices), and think about their future tend to grow themselves out of poverty. But it takes an unusually strong personal sense of character to stick with that, and most poor people give up at the first sign of resistance.
So having kids is the result of not thinking ahead, and really not caring what happens in the future. And ironically, it only locks them into a future of even more poverty.
The problem is, we reward them for it. If instead, they were forced to give the kids up for adoption, and all it did was cause them pain and sadness, they'd think twice about getting pregnant again and again and again.

most parents become poor after having a lot of children, usually these are people who come from a strong catholic background so using contraception is morally wrong.

I think it has nothing to do with birth control. 'Poor' people simply know what matters in life. Having a child that loves loves you and that you love unconditionally is much more rewarding than a hummer and mansion by the beach. With wealthy people it seems that additional child they CAN afford would prevent them from getting that promotion, that better car, early retirement, what ever. They have one or two, the PC number and that's it.
