birds do not just know how to speak......you must teach them. teach him easy things, like "hello" or "goodbye" and mabey use as few words as possible (have just one way to refer to him). it also depends on the type of bird u have. the little ones don't talk, but the large parrots do. use google to find more info. hope this helped!

What kind of parrot?

Parrots are flock birds so need lots of hands on time with it's owner. You need to work with it to get it to say words or phrases. Expect to do this often through out the day. Spend at least 10 minutes at a time repeating the word or phrase. Praise highly when it does finally say the word.

Parrots have the mentality of a young child. I once had a Quaker. I taught it to say, "Night, Night. Bedtime. Cover up." He could say it in any order. As he was taught, For instance if he said "night, night" and I said "Bedtime" he was say "cover up." But he could also do it the opposite, I say "night, night" he was say "bedtime." and I'd say "cover up." Point being he knew the difference and the correct order.

You dont know if the parrot will talk, however, the more work you put into teaching the parrot the more you will get out of him/her.
So the wife says, she is a manager of a pet shop......and never stops talking . . . he he !

Mark.

They start to make noises like they are trying to speak. We have 2 parrots that talk quite a bit. You have to repeat quite and they start repeating what you said.
