It wasn't your sister's fault the puppy chewed through his lead but she might want to try a different type of lead.
Nylon is stronger and wire mesh is stronger! Chain leads will definitely solve your problem!

Puppies naturally do a lot of chewing. Your sister needs to redirect his behavior gently by giving him something he's allowed to chew (like a toy). If he was left alone with the leash on, of course he will chew it, it's very interesting to him!
I really hope this doesn't mean the dog was tied up with the lead. That can lead to some really bad behavior.

It is normal for dogs to chew their lead - especially if it is the first time the dog has been put on a lead. There is no harm in it and there is no pressing reason to try and stop the dog from doing it. He will eventually stop by himself

The boyfriend is being immature. 7 month old puppies chew. Better the lead than a sofa, a chair or table...
Be sure the puppy has lots of chew toys. I highly recommend large rolled or knotted rawhide.

That is just what puppies do. I have had many leads chewed through. Of course, if your sister hadn't left it where the puppy could get to it, it wouldn't have been a problem.

Dogs are like children they have to be watched. Just like children get in trouble so do dogs. you have to put everything a way. A teething puppy with chew anything. So if she left it in a place the dog could get it. I would be her fault

The best thing a dog owner can do is buy 3 books one
1) on vet med
2) on training
3) on the breed you have
This is your best help.
You will get a lot of wrong answers here-but some are good

the pup is being a pup!!..just like achild..he is playing. he does not know he should not chew the lead. Does he have chew toys? Is he getting lots of outdoor activiy?
has your sister taken him to puppy classes?..(where he can be properly trained, and she can be taught how to raise a puppy?)
Puppies do not know right from wrong yet..thye ar learning and need to be taught with proper guidence. (Not yelling at the puppy or hitting him..ever!!!)
tell her to go to obiedence training with the puppy..that way she will learn how to train and be a good owner to her puppy.
