I was reading about it in Wikipedia, and it seems like there's at least fifty different versions.

There are actually more than 300 Distrobutions. Very confusing!

Go to http://www.distrowatch.com On the right side, you can see the list of Ratings by Distro.

For a Windows switcher, I think Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.org) is the easiest to use. To set up XP and Ubnuntu as a Dual-Boot, watch this video:

You will need to know how to "Burn an ISO", re-post if needed.

For someone new to Linux then you're probably best off using Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or openSuSE.

I would recommend Kubuntu as it runs under KDE and that's the most Windows-like GUI. Kubuntu is essentially the same as Ubuntu, it just uses the Windows-like KDE.

Ubuntu is very popular right now, and there is a program called Beryl that will make it look more like Windows Vista.
