I have a pioneer DEH-P5650MP head unit i want to use the AUX input for my lap top to hear music,but the sound is very low and i cant control the volume from my head unit.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

it has an aux input in the rear and the SLA is the source level adjusment but it does not affect the aux input

In some Pioneer head units, there is a source level adjustment. I don't think that series does, but I'm not sure. You would see it in the audio menu. You can accomplish this electronically with a line driver. You can get a pretty inexpensive one from PAC or Peripheral. I believe PAC's part # is TURBO1. This will amplify the voltage from your laptop and it is adjustable to tweak it in to your liking.

If you can't control the volume at all from the head unit's volume control, then chances are that what you're connected to isn't an auxiliary input. The only way to use AUX on that deck is with a P-Bus adapter, which plugs into the blue P-Bus port on the back and converts it to RCA line inputs. If you're not using that adapter, then you're not using an auxiliary input.
