70=boring 90=fun

Okay, its a dry day the motorway is clear and I'm doing 90. Of course i'm in the right hand lane yet I have to move to the middle lane to let cars pass they are clearly doing 100+ every few minutes.

If so many cars are breaking the speed limit, it is safe to assume that the police don't really care.

Plus like I say 70 is pretty dull and 90 interesting.

I care, primarily because I don't like cleaning up the horrendous accidents that speeders cause.

90 isn't fun anymore when you are in critical condition in some hospital.

The speed limits were set more then 30 years ago. If you have driven a car from the 60's and 70's then you will realise the safety and stability differences. It can be bloody scary doing 70 in a 30 year old car.
Police will hunt you down if you are doing 90 and they see you. Its nonsense though because cars can quite safely at 80/90 these days in clear weather.
But its the nanny state sticking its nose in and stopping all fun, in every form.

Why is 90 more fun than 70? The difference it feels between those speeds isn't that great. If that gets you excited then you need to re-evaluate your life and find something that really gets you excited. There's really nothing exciting about driving at 90 along a motorway.

From a safety point of view you have more time to react at 70, and can stop in a shorter distance, and therefore are less likely of being involved in a collision.

The Police in the UK would almost certainly deal with you at 90mph.

If you want kicks then take up go-karting (much more fun).

are you asking because you have got away with it a lot?
I think if it safe to do 90 it should be O.K to do 90.but to do that legally you would have to go to germany!star for you cause it would be good to know if the police do care-when they are out looking for money then they will.
it only 20 mph difference ,from 70 -90 but when you have to brake fast ,the 20 makes things a lot more dangerous.been there.scary.

A cop told me once that the best way not to get stopped for speeding is to keep going most of them don't want to chase you down especially if it is near shift change because stopping people and writing tickets means extra paperwork before it is time to go home. I totally understand what you are saying though even if you wanted to drive the speed limit you cant because all the other cars are going so fast. The limit on the interstate near my house is 65 but you have to drive at least 80 to keep up with traffic.

i was told by a traffic cop that most of them regard 85 as a sensible limit for a clear motorway under good conditions in a car of reasonable condition,it's all pretty subjective, but if you look sus you'll get pulled doing 69.If the police nicked everyone stretching the rules we'd have one copper each
If you tear-**** past a policeman doing 85 you deserve to get nicked, you can't have been aware of your speed or worse not, aware of him. That says a lot about your driving standard and thats what he's more interested in

Are you in a car or on a motorbike?
Ever seen a bike pulled over? I never have but I've seen quite a lot of cars at the side of the road with a patrol car behind it.

I drive at 70 or less most of the time & an awful lot of cars pass me very quickly.
So, who knows?

Why ask me, I'm not a copper, Just nip down to your motorway, look for a police car, then blast past it doing the Lewis Hamilton bit. If they ignore you they don't mind. On the other hand if they put on the blues and two's you can be fairly sure they are not impressed. Have fun.

In general the police need to assure public safety. Are you going to cause an accident involving other people for driving over the speed limit?

They probably would if they spotted you and I care...reckless driving costs lives and describing 90mph as fun when driving on a motorway with others around is just irresponsible and selfish. Sorry to sound harsh but you did ask.
