Don't panic. She will survive a snake bite to the face or spider bite. Go to vet if you wish but they can do little. Chances are nothing more serious will come about. If it is snake bite she will suffer terribely through the night but be better tomorrow. Old folks tail says a dog bit on the head will live and a dog bit on leg will die. The fact is that many dogs have been bitten on the head and lived. So was my cousin and my cat. The site of the wound could abcess and then it will need antibiotic salve or shots. The problem is rattlesnake venom destroys muscle tissue. Probablly got wasp stung.

Most here live in a different world than I. There is no vet on Sunday to handle a minor wasp sting or even a snake bite. If the dog was going to die he would have died by the time we could find a vet. Dollar to a donut says the dog lives without without treatment of any kind. Lucky to find a vet anytime at all. They are busy and often out in the fields treating cattle and not at office or home. Might call you on phone and say watch it and call if worsens. Last time I called a vet I had to drive 36 miles round trip and get the shots to adminsiter myself.

How many snake bit dogs have most seen? I have seen many. None died. Not one single dog. Not one single person (they all got shots of various kinds and hospital will refuse anti-ventom to any who cannot confirm without a doubt type of snake). Not one single cat died.

If my diagnoses of wasp sting turns out right how about best answer?

Ok calm down.. what kind of snake? Your vet has him in his care. You are going to be ok and so is your dog. Just keep up with the treatment. The hair will grow back, he will lose it, the cells in the area are dead now. It should grow back though. Depending on the snake.. will depend on how long. Or how much Venom. We had a dog bit by a rattle snake when I was young (ok years and years ago) and she had to have shots, and was ok after awhile. It was on her leg though. But she lost hair and muscle tone for awhile. She threw up, and was sick for a long time.. weak. But after awhile she perked up and was fine. Stayed away from rattlers from then on. Be patient, if you dont see improvement or it does look like he is going down hill take him into the Vet immediatly OK. Good luck.. And give him a kiss for me Poor baby.. (give him and extra blanket also to keep him warm).

Put ice on the bite and call the Vet.

If it was a snake, the pup would have a fever and be sick.

It could be a spider, bee, wasp, flea, or fire ant... It would help if you could figure out what it was, but the Vet can provide meds to reduce the inflammation...

Quickly put ice on her nose. You would know if it was a snake bite, because there are two distinct fang marks. If not, she might have been stung by a bee or biten by a spider. Just keep ice on it and bring her to your vet immediately. Just in case.

Benadryl will take down the swelling. Use two doses four hours a part at mg/lb strength. So if she weighs 25lbs give her 25mg now and then 25mg in four hours again. If she weighs 10lbs then use 10mg, etc.
If she is having trouble breathing because the swelling is so acute, then go to the vet hospital now and get a shot to take it down.

Its probably a bee sting . Give her 1 benadryl and put ice on it . If it doesn't go down within the next hour get her to a vet .I had a Great Dane that would catch bumble bees and get stung on his mouth and nose every summer . That's what it sounds like . If she starts acting weird or acts like shes having trouble breathing get her into a vet .

If there's a chance it could be a snake bite, the sooner you get vet care, the better her chances of survival. You can't always find the puncture wounds. If its an allergic reaction, they can give her shots to stop it.

If you had a bite to the face of unknown origin, what would you do? Yep. I'd take the dog to the doctor NOW.

Give her pink Benadryl immediately!!!! this will lessen the histamines that are causing a reacation. Then get her to an emergency clinic so they can assess her.
