Probably because he has no idea WHAT it means either - he more than likely saw Methos` tat in the Highlander series LOL and thought it was cool.
Or :-
It`s Celtic and there`s usually an accent over the "a" .
Maru was also an Oceanic God in the Maori pantheon.
Also Japanese sea vessels usually have Maru in their name.
