If they locked then she is pregnant. But the risks are almost non-existent. These people who say otherwise are nuts who just want your dog spayed. Dogs do this all the time. Breeders, those AKC championship breeders, do this all the time. There is no danger to the puppies. They won't be two headed monsters who have to be destroyed or anything remotely close to it. Those are LIES!!!. Good Lord.
If you want the dog spayed, then spay her. But don't do it simply because a bunch of neuter nuts are lying to you about this. This is done (on purpose) all the time in the breeding world. There is no problem with the pregnancy or the puppies. As someone else said, this is how breeds are formed in the first place. They take a dog with a characteristic they like and breed it. Then breed the puppy back to the dog, Then breed the puppy back to the grand dog until they reach about 5 generations of inbreeding. Then they add some new genetic material and keep rebreeding the line or family members with the characteristic they want over and over to create a breed with this specific characteristic inbred into all of them.
Your dog is not in any danger and neither are her babies. If she were then there wouldn't be breeds in the first place because that is how they make them.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
edit-- one person said that each heat increases the risk for pyometra and breast cancer. That is only true if the dog doesn't have puppies. If the dog has puppies and nurses them then her risks do not increase. Unfruitful heat cycles are dangerous over time, but if a Mama has puppies and nurses them the risks go down.
The final truth is that you can do as you choose with the pregnancy. But you didn't commit some grave mistake. This is done purposely all the time, and your puppies will end up just fine if you wish to maintain the pregnancy. There is no greater risk in this than in any other prenancy. And someone else mentioned c-section risks for the breed. I bred shih tzus for 10 years. Not one section. Now my pekes did have a few sections, but never the shih tzus. It is not a major risk because the breed doesn't have a wide head.
I wish you the very best with your shih family.

There's a pretty good chance she could be pregnant. Vets can give a shot to prevent the pregnancy, but it's not without possible risks (they will discuss it with you). If you were going to have her spayed anyway, it takes a couple of weeks for the puppies to develop past the 'blob' stage, so that's a possibility. If she is young and healthy, the pups might be just fine. This happens a lot, and even breeders do inbreeding (but they know what they are doing). The pups can have a higher chance of health or behavior problems, but usually not.

What you don't know about breeding could fill volumes.
Stop mucking around and get those dogs spayed and neutered.
So far, you are lucky you didn't hurt both dogs pulling them apart or get torn apart yourself by them while they were int he throes of hormonal
mania.
The puppies will be inbred, of course, and in spite of what some of the people on here say, there is a VERY good chance that congenital, hereditary defects will come out in them sooner or later.
What is the point in letting something like this happen??? Be a responsible pet owner, get those dogs fixed - you don't have to be a "nut" to not want sick dogs born into the already crowded world of homeless animals.
Get a grip folks - this isn't a contest over rules, these are living, feeling beings at risk.

People think about it! those saying that its "no harm, other breeders do it all the time" blah blah blah..
What if a HUMAN mother and son produced a child? Do you really think that the child would be normal and healthy? probably not . Its true that pure bred dogs are all related and that just makes gentic problems more occuring. nature intended individuals to mate with others with differnt genes to produce offspring to survive. Survival of the fittest

if your dogs are not class A registered show dogs who do well in the show ring and have excellent confirmation/temperments/health then there is no reason to bother placing more dogs on this planet then necessary, you cannot garuntee all those pups life long happy homes....just look at death row in one of you local shelters not all those dogs have reasons for being put to sleep actually about 80% of them are re-homable but cant be becuase there isnt enough space cuz why more dogs keep coming cuz people keep allowing for whatever reason them to breed.
otherwise it only takes one time for your dog to be pregnant. and if the shot doesnt work you are optionless just short of aborting the pregnancy....More Lives Lost :( ....i dont mean to be rude but its a bad subject for me.

had you taken her to the vet with 72 hours after they "locked" she could have gotten a shot to prevent this pregnancy. Mother son breeding isn't looked upon as a nice thing but it doesn't always end up being bad.

I knew a woman that used line breeding to produce poodles with luxurious coats that were thick, soft, cottony- beautiful..and by the time the dogs were five years old most did not have a tooth left in their mouth. She bred grandparent to grandpup.
female bred to her own offspring is inbreeding and there can be problems. Your pups may all look fine, some may be fine for their lives. If your female has any illnesses or illnesses in her close family tree, skin problems etc, then those things could be pronounced in the pups as well as other potential problems. Here is a site that more clearly explains the pros and cons of inbreeding:

sometimes if it's the boys first time it won't take. while others they take easily. a lot of breeders do breed the mom with the son or with the father of the mom. if don't want her to get bred any more you should go and get her spayed. if she took the baby's might either be deformed or very tiny.

Get her and him fixed if you dont want puppies. I dont think it matters what dog she might get pregnant from in her point of view. So defenetly go to the vet. Good luck.

It's called line breeding and it isn't unusual. If they didn't tie then she won't be pregnant from it. If they did, then it will still be ok. The puppies are just more prone to genetic diseases than if they were completely unrelated. But the risk is minor and rare. All purebred dogs are inbred to a certain extent. Line breeding is done all the time. It doesn't mean that your puppies will be deformed or anything. It really is done all the time. That is how they created breeds in the first place. Don't kill the puppies over this. They will be fine, the risk is extremely minimal.
