I think it was started in the early 1930's by a man and his wife named Ballard.

Yes, you folks did your research! My grandmother and her three sisters were heavily involved in this 'religion'. They had been brought up in the Methodist faith. One of my grandmother's sisters lost a young son in a tragic motorcycle accident and she was in deep sorrow, naturally, when one day in Chicago she came across the pamphlets and booklets and she felt that God wanted her to leave Methodism and go with the 'I AM' movement, and she was able to get her sisters involved heavily. This movement is NOT Christian, by any stretch of the imagination. I am surprised they still exist.

Vicarious Cynic - Well, it says they encouraged their followers to give money they called "love gifts" so my guess would be that it was a great flaming love gift! Lots of money! lol
