Take a couple of sets of civies but don't expect to be doing much other than training. Concentrate on learning your MOS. There'll be time for the online courses later.

You probably won't have time to take online courses, but your classes at AIT will count for college credits. As for what you can bring, you can take a cell phone and maybe a couple sets of civilian clothes, but anything else would not be recommended. The AIT course you are entering is short, so you will be concentrating on classes more than anything else.
Good Luck!

You won't have time to do much of anything at first. Forget about on-line courses. The Drill Sargeants that you are assigned to will lock your personal stuff up right when you get there. You won't be allowed to have it back until you phase up (that will be explained when you arrive). Recruiters try to bill AIT as close to a college atmosphere as they can without totally lying. However, it falls way short. You will probably like Boot Camp after six weeks or so, but you will hate AIT from the moment you get there until the moment you leave. Soldiers who have really long MOS trainings, 20 weeks or more, buy computers and PS2's TVs and things like that but, remember, you can't have it until you phase up. Mine was 26 weeks and we weren't allowed to wear civilians until we had been there for 16 weeks. Forget about getting into a car. They won't let you drive or get into a car until you leave for your permanent duty station. NO Soldiers in training status ever get into a car. If your MOS training isn't 15 weeks or more, don't worry about a computer and stuff like that because that's a bunch of extra crap you will have to pack up and take with you when you go to your Duty station. Save your money and buy really good stuff when you leave. The only things better in AIT than Boot Camp are you can eat whatever you want and you do PT only once a day. Don't mess up and become a fat body like some soldiers do. Don't eat pizza every night before lights out. Nevertheless, AIT sucks! Don't bother with on-line courses until you have been in for a year or so. Give yourself time to get assimilated. As soon as you report to your duty station, you will be low man on the pole so you will be put on a lot of crap details at first. You won't have much free time. Believe me. I think you will like the Army though. It's an excellent learning experience and you will meet some guys who you will consider brothers who will do anything for you and you them. I had a good time in Iraq! Good luck Bro and STAY POSITIVE! That's the best advice I got when I was in.

you will not be allowed to take any other courses other than the training you get in AIT.

wait until you get there to find out what you will be allowed to have and what kind of room you have to store stuff.
