I recently adopted a pregnant boxer because the shelter thought that she had already had her pups and was going to put her to sleep. I can tell that she's pretty far into her pregnancy, and I've been watching her really closely, but I wanted to know if there's a way to tell when the big day might be.

PLEASE NO INSULTS, I'VE HELPED PREGNANT DOGS GIVE BIRTH BEFORE, AND I'M PLANNING ON KEEPING ALL OF HER PUPS NO MATTER WHETHER SHE HAS ONE OR FOURTEEN BECAUSE I HAVE THE MEANS TO).

thanks.

By the way, the shelter did not have an "on-site vet" or any vet for that matter, and nobody up there even acted like they knew what they were doing, so yes, she is pregnant, and they told me that they did not do spaying or neutering there, that I would have to take any animal I adopted from them to a vet for that.

I'd keep a tab on her temperature. Eight to twelve hours prior to whelping she will have a significant temperature drop. (usually low as 97 degrees to 99) Check her temp at least three times a day so as not to miss the drop.

I used to have a pit bull/boxer mix that I kept inside. When she had her pups she acted nervous and kept pacing and sniffing around. I used an old quilt to make a comfy bed and she finally settled in. I woke up in the middle of the night to find her having the pups. I wouldnt have known because she was so quiet!!

the best is temperature will go down within 24 hours before birthing.
Although I suggest taking her to teh vets to make sure she is healthy and make sure she is pregnant. i would have her checked for worms as well. She and the pups can start worming when teh pups are two weeks old and some wormers are safe for the b-i-t-c-h
Good luck

Her temperature will drop about 3 degrees within 24 hours of whelping. Even if you have the means to keep 14 puppies, it would be unfair. Puppies need to go to their own homes (NOT before 7 weeks!) to become social, mature, thinking individuals and not a pack.
Good luck.
