i just typed in the word cute on yahoo image search and all the pictures were pornographic. why?

Yeah! And most of 'em weren't really cute either!
Seriously, if you don't like it, you can turn on "safe search". When you do that, you get puppies, bunnies, and kittens (all of which really WERE cute).

The answer is sex.
The sexual drive motivates us to do many things, including fantasizing about cute boys and girls. Holy Toledo!!!! I searched on "farmers" and "daughters" years ago and even back then, the eyeball burners I got were ... !!!!

Because you turned off "safe-search." Change that under the preferences link on the top right of the page, unless you're not offended, in which case - thanks for sharing! Safe Search is on by default, so you (probably) disabled it some time ago.

I just did it and got the porn too. The reason why is porno sites purposly put words in their site to be brought up when things are typed in.

Get Norton(or other) Parental Protection for your computer. Why? Porn is the fasting growing industry that uses internet.

I just tried that..... there are a lot of animal pictures. Bunnies, puppies...etc...nothing bad.
