The Church of England is an important pillor of the establishment within the UK.

This right has been established legally with, among other things, the Church of England having seats set aside for its Bishops within the House of Lords

Given that many UK subjects belong to other religions or adhere to no religion whatsoever should the Church of England still be entitled to view itself as the national religious body of the United Kingdom?

The only reason I support the system as it is is that the Church of England Has to combat the influence of the Vatican Catholic Church. Anything that helps combat the Catholic evil is a good thing. Whats the betting I'll get a violation for that truth?

The Church of England is only established in ENGLAND. None of the other countries of the United Kingdom have an established church in communion with the Anglican Church.
I am not a member of the Church of England but I see no reason for it not remaining the Established Church - it represents a large body of Christians within England and this does not demean anyone who is not a member of it.

As an Anglican I also puzzle over this. I feel that on the whole the influence of the C of E is not a bad one in government. it is not there to adopt the popular view on matters, I often disagree with some of it's views. I do feel that it should be more vigorous in stating it's opinions and doctrines which are surprisingly often very close to those of other Christian (including the Church of Rome) and non-Christian faiths. So my answer is that for the moment if it works don't try to fix it

Yes. Both the Church and the Monarchy should be abolished, and Great Britain should be declared a Federal Republic and adopt a Constitution. The Anglican Church would probably grow as a result, because people wouldn't associate it with the royal family.

It's highly unusual for a supposedly democratic society to have a national religious body. We should get rid of ours.

I did not realise this was the case.

even the law though, it's just another mass delusion, surely?

I reckon management of the C of E should be handed to the Western Buddhist Order. I mean it.

I guess it's not likely though.

I fear that the Greek Orthodox Church is manoeuvring for a take-over.

I don't think it should be "disestablished" but we could do with a new Archbishop of Canterbury, one who has actually read and understood the Bible would be nice.
