I don't really care for Jeff Gordon myself, but I don't think that racing would be the same without him! He is a very competative driver and makes Nascar exciting to watch.

I know that day will come eventually but I have thought about that as he is a father and said that he doesnt plan on racing past 40 which is in like 4 or 5 years but I think that he will race longer, and I cant imagine NASCAR without him, and who would take over his car. I just cant think of anyone like him will ever exist. I don't think I could ever like a driver as much as I love him. I don't know who I would root for, and I hope that day doesnt come for a very long time, as long as he is still competitive and winning I think that he will race. I think he is a great guy with a great heart and wish that I could personally be a friend of his in general. I just dont know what my life would be like without him... I just couldn't imagine it....

The strength of Nascar is the fact that the sport is much bigger than any one person. Dale Earnhardt was the most popular person in the sport for years. He's gone and Nascar is still here. People like Richard Petty, Darrell Waltrip, David Pearson, Junior Johnson, Davey Allison, and Rusty Wallace have all made history in Nascar racing and are no longer behind the wheel. The sport will continue to roll along no matter who comes or goes. Jeff Gordon could leave tomorrow and the racing will continue.

It wouldn't. He was very different than the average NASCAR driver when he broke in. He definitely expanded fan appeal being a clean-cut, ready for TV non-Southerner. All that would not have mattered, but he became a winner, almost immediately.
Admittedly, he's also given people someone to boo- the same way baseball fans boo the Yankees, NFL fans boo the Raiders (not much to boo these days), and the Lakers in hoops. If he wasn't a winner, nobody would py much attention to him.
NASCAR is a great sport and will move on after Gordo retires, but there's no denying he's impacted the sport the way "3" did and Richard Petty.

No it wouldn't. When Jeff came into nascar, the only two guys that people were watching were Dale Sr and Wallace. As soon as Jeff came along and started winning, nascars attendance really statred to boom. People were amazed that this young non southern rookie could do the things he did. Nascar will be the first to tell you that Jeff's entry into nascar, was a big boost to it's ticket sales and popularity..

Jeff Gordon has been tremendous for the sport. He is mostly soft spoken, rarely gets angry in public and can drive a car to success. He has his detractors because of the competitive races he delivered to Earnhardt Sr. He isn't a "good ole boy" from the south. He is from California doing extremely well in a sport where most folk still think a driver should be in the image of Junior Johnson or Richard Petty.

I think you are slowly becoming a Jeff Gordon fan the more and more you keep asking these Gordon questions. NASCAR would move on, they and the fans had to after they lost Dale Sr. It would take some time for people to adjust without him there, but they would either adjust, or they would just quit watching racing since it wouldn't be the same to them anymore.

I love to bash Gorden, but don't take me wrong.
I know Jeff is a superb and talented driver. There is NO doubt in that. In fact the bashing started out by him and Dale Sr. "putting on a show". (If you watched last night's coverage after the race you would of seen where they documented it).
Why, comes down to giving the fans what we want and to boost merchandise sales.
Just because fans bash drivers don't mean we hate them. It just shows we love to "intimidate" other rival fans and put a sense of a thrill in the air as the drivers do one another. It's all part of the show, it's called NASCAR!

I think Gordon is good for the sport cause he helped expand it. A lot of the old time fans still want it to be a southerner only sport, but you can't grow like that. If NASCAR would have stayed in the south another series would have started and put NASCAR out of business. Like him or hate him, you gotta admit he helped the sport grow into what it is today, the 2nd most watched sport in America. Not some racing series that no one know the drivers, like CART.
