It's called "Space-A" (available).

There are books about how to use it most effectively at Military Clothing Sales and the PX. They are thorough and the best resource on this. They'll tell you which bases have flights to where the most, how to do it and what to expect.

I flew with the Air Force and took a lot of hops. They are great, but they are limited. First...there has to be a plane that can carry passengers going from your home to your destination. This is unlikely with the Army. Second...it's only if there is space available (Hence, Space-A). Third...you can get bumped even if you get on if a priority passenger needs to be boarded...and you can get bumped anywhere. Fourth - it's a hassle because you will still need rental cars, etc from the base to your destination. Lastly - non-military spouses cannot fly space-A in the U.S. (at least they couldn't when i stopped flying with the AF in 1999).

It is only Space "A" (Available) and personnel under orders get seats first. You must be ON leave and you can wait for days and days and still never get a seat to fly. If you want to blow numerous leave days trying to get to CO ok, but I would just get cheap regular tickets and go that way. This program works best for retired people that have nothing else to do with their time but wait and wait.

It's called a military hop. You can fly from one air base to another. Check with the local airbase near you, air force, or navy, some army bases also have airstrips. The administrative office should be able to help you with this.

particular, I do. We had planned on a hundred and fifty, yet purely have been given approximately one hundred twenty particular's initially. We extra some those that it became "ok" to ask at a prior due date, and planned on (and paid for) 136. We had a minimum of 11 no-shows, such as close family. We have been truly brutal with the customer checklist, and our very own acquaintances did no longer make the decrease in deference to our households and my mothers and dads' acquaintances. My husband became overly confident that individuals does not say no. i in my opinion choose I had invited greater of my own acquaintances.

yes you both can use space a travel, you need to find out where the nearest AF or naval air station is. with that said space can be a crap shoot so be prepared for getting bumped or not having a direct flight to exactly where you are going. so my advice would be to get a book from the PX on space a travel or like i said earlier contact the nearest AFB or naval air station and ask them about there rules for space a travel.

Contact your base transportation office and note that it is space available only and uniformed personal take precedence. Yes its cheap, but you cannot count on the schedules or that you will even get on the flight. You better have really open schedules and plans.

if you absolutely have to be in a certain place by a certain time, than going Space A is NOT a good option, as you can be bumped at any time for any reason. additionally, you must be on leave before you can sign up and you still have to get back on time regardless, so unless you have a backup, you are TOL.

There are hops (Space Available), but they are hard to come by. There are rules and regulations that you need to be aware of.

Check out the websites:

Good luck but don't hold your breath!!
