Another question by someone who really doesn't know Mormonism it's doctrine or culture.

No Mormons don't hate blacks, they never hated blacks.
Here's something virtually nobody knows...the first persecution on mormons were because they printed an article on how free blacks from non slave states can immigrate to missouri a slave state, and be a free citizen.
The Missiourians didn't like that so they burned down the printing press and kicked out all the mormons from Jackson County Missouri. (last 3 pages of vol 1 Documented History of the Church)

The first black person to have the priesthood in the church wasn't in 1978. but in 1833 Elijah Abel. They're hundreds of thousands of black members in the church worldwide in Africa, Brazil and the U.S.

Actually the most hateful denomonation on black people have been the Southern Baptist Convention. They came into existance before the civil war and broke from the National Baptist Convention because they feel black people were inferior to white people and should be slaves to white plantantioners.

Most of us don't (several of my best friends over the years and two of my favorite teachers from when I was in high school are all black). While there may well be some Mormons who hold racist views (which is unfortunate, reguardless of the religious affiliation of the individual holding such vierws), it should not be viewed as a representation of the majority of Mormons, or official Mormon Church doctrine.

There was never a doctrine or attitude of *hate* ever generated by the church, but there were many apostolic comments made up until the late 1970s that would be considered at the very least "racist" in nature. Most were made by Elder Bruce R McConkie, Presidents Joseph Feilding Smith and Ezra Taft Benson. Smith became the 6th and Benson became the 13th president of the church. All left their own distinctive marks on the church.

The church has never issued an an apology for all their previous statements, so unless it starts costing them money, they won't either.

Note that this is all occurred at the upper levels of church hierarchy; most members have no idea these statements ever existed and would disagree with their sentiment entirely. The membership is fine and open, the church history is peppered with social blotches.

Nope. At least not most of us. I'm sure there are some that do, just like in every other religion. In fact, I had a sister in law that was black, from Jamaica. We didn't like her, but not because she was black. She was psycho!!! My niece and nephew from that marriage are half black, and they are so cute!!!

At one point, I thought about adopting a black baby, and I would have, but I found out I was pregnant.

There are a lot of black people in Utah!! More then there used to be, and many in the church. We don't discriminate.

I think part of this belief stems from back in church history. There was some controversy over the fact that black males weren't allowed to hold the priesthood. There were reasons for that, and I'm sure what they all were. I'm posting a website that talks about it though. It might help you to understand this better.

Long ago it was stated in the mormon culture that a black skin was the mark of Cain.

Cain was the person whom killed his brother out of jealously.

Of course this is nonsense because all blacks would have then been wiped out during the flood of moses' time.

silly mormons..

mormons have since rejected that belief along with polygamy.

No we don't. Of course there might be some mormons that do, but those mormons are definitely bad mormons and they will be judged for that.

IN THE BOOK OF MORMON in Jacob 3:9 it says:

" Wherefore, a commandment I give unto you, which is the word of God that ye revile no more against them because of the darkness of their skins;......."

This is nonsense. Mormons are good people and hate no one based on color or even religion.. They some time (like everyone else) get stirred up when what they believe is challenged. This human failing in us that makes us cling to our beliefs can be good and bad. If you cling to error like they do, it will lead you aways from salvation inwards judgment.... Jim

Won't find me in Utah anytime soon. I have heard they don't like us at all. And this was recently. I also know some that I wouldn't be able to call a friend because they talk to me as if I am a thing not a person. Not rude, just can tell there are some walls up for some reason.
