Hi,
I have dreamt of getting a puppy ever since I was a child. My only problem is my mum.She says she'll never stand a dog at home.:((((( My other family members feel indifferent about it.However, if my mom agrees, then I'll be able to get one:)She says she doesn't want a dog because it will damage furniture and it will shed.I always explain to her that there are some breeds that don'tshed much and there are many toys for dogs, so that they don't damage home stuff. But she won't listen. She says she just doesn't want a dog at home:(((((((( Can I ever do something to change her mind ???????:(((((((
Thx:)

Hi anna, me again. Doh! this question is so much harder. She is correct - it will damage the furniture and shed - but then, so did you? when you were a a baby? You messed up? You damaged things? You messed nappies? (I think you call them dypers in the US?) But that didn't stop her wanting you - did it? so, if it was me, I would try and 'take care' of a friend's (well behaved) dog when they are away on holiday (vacation) and just watch her go for it. Good luck with your dream.
P.S. Take a peep at this

I live with one of those people, and no, you probably can't change her mind. The best you can do is to write down all of her objections and counter them one by one. Take all the responsibility for the dog's training and feeding, and tell her you'll crate train the dog so puppy won't be running around unattended at night or when you are out of the house.

I know it's not much consolation, but this anti-dog person I live with is not anti-cat. It's not the same, I know, but she does love me and let me hold her and she purrs loudly when I scratch her back. And she's ready to play WHENEVER. Cannot possibly ignore strings. And strings on sticks are even better.

I know you've always wanted a dog, but you may have to wait until you move out of your Mom's house. Sorry.

I had the same problem growing up. I had to wait until I was an adult and have always had animals, cats and dogs, ever since. Mom tolerates them when she visits. My sister is the same, now has dogs. Parents who don't allow animals do not realize they are depriving their kids of a learning experience, but on the other hand I appreciate my animals more having to grow up first. You can't make her change her mind, but you can learn to be patient and wait until you have your own home when you are grown.
