Curacao is not a Country on it's own, but an island belonging to the Netherlands Antilles. The Netherlands Antilles is in this case the country, and Curacao is one of the 5 cities, or islands that make the Netherlands Antilles.
However it has been decided that Curacao will soon become an independant island in the kingdom of the Netherlands, just like Aruba. When this happens, than Curacao will be considered a 'country'. For now, it is just Part of a Country.

Curaçao is an island in the southern part of the Caribbean Sea off the west coast of Venezuela. The island is the largest and most populous of the three so-called ABC islands (for Aruba, Bonaire, and Curaçao) of the Lesser Antilles – specifically the Leeward Antilles – and belongs to the Netherlands Antilles, a self-governing part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. Curaçao's capital is Willemstad.
Curaçao has a land area of 444 square kilometres (171 square miles). At the 2001 Netherlands Antilles census, the population was 130,627 inhabitants, which means a population density of 294 inhabitants per square kilometre. In 2004, the population was estimated at 133,644 inhabitants. It lies outside the hurricane belt.

Curacao is part of the ABC Islands (Aruba, Bonaire, Curacao) otherwise know as the Netherlands or Dutch Antilles( or lesser Antilles ), located 35 miles off the coast of Venezuela in the Southern Caribbean, where the Hurricanes do not get to. Biggest Island in the group is Bonaire. They are part of the "Kingdom Of The Netherlands" and the citizens are European Union Citizens. Very nice Place !

Per say, Curacau is a posession/colony of the Netherlands (Holland). Check the cia factbook regardless of what country you do. Here is the link for the Netherlands Antilles: https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/print/nt.html or just google "cia factbook" and you get info on all the countries of the world. Enjoy your project and trip. P.S. If you are Americans, if you don't have passports, apply now as it takes 10-12 weeks and you'll need them for most countries.
