Not tyring 2 b rude, just curious. Think about it 4rm my point of view. Im a christian. If im right and ur wrong, u suffer 4 eternity and i am rewarded 4 eternity. If ur right and im wrong, we both share the same fate. We both rot in the ground. You guys are taking a huge risk. By being a christian you have nothing to lose and everything to gain. Atheists have nothing to gain and everything to lose. Are you that sure that you're right that you'll take a huge risk like that?

I want an original rephrasing of Pascal's Wager.

Anyone?

Thank you. I don't know what my day would be without my daily dose of Pascals Wager.

I don't believe in your or any other deity period thus I have nothing to lose by my outlook. You have no empirical proof deities are real. It is only by your outlook that I take a risk and since I do not follow your doctrine it does not apply to me.

I was raised a christian, spent many years as an eclectic pagan and through it all, after reading many books and talking with many people I have evolved to the point where I rely on myself and not some unproved entity.

You aren't being rude and you ask a valid and thought provoking question. Myself being agnostic, I believe that atheism is practiced because atheists see worshipping God as excessive and a waste of their time. Plus, there are an infinite number of religions and most of them promise paradise if you follow their rules and atheists see all of these as excessive, and thus they choose to follow atheism. Islam and Judiasm offer similar ideals and atheists would have to choose which one is right. Sort of a spiritual Russian Roulette where if you choose the "wrong faith", you don't go to heaven or any other afterlife. And another thing is that atheists are typically skeptical and want proof that God exists. Faith simply is not an option to them. Hope I was of some help.

I'm not going to bother answer this again except to point out that whatever you believe happens when you die, the odds are that your wrong. There are 6 billions people in the world and only a third are Christian, the most of any single religion. Out of those two billion there are numerous interpretations of the bible and different beliefs regarding Heaven and Hell and who gets to go. Do you really think that God would intentionally make it that confusing for a person to know what the right thing is to believe?

A question for Charlie Brown? Why be a total doofus? You do know you can search Yahoo Answers right? Shouldn't you have checked to see if this was asked before?

In fact, it has probably been asked 20 times a day. The original version of this question was asked hundreds of years ago. It is called Pascal's Wager. It is an extremely terrible argument that no one with two brain cells would use.

well the concept of a god that would do that kind of thing without a provable warning is pretty disturbing, I'm not an atheist because I think I will get something out of it, I'm an atheist because there is no proof of a god and in fact there are so many things that have been disproven, several I have been able to disprove to myself on my own such as in the 5th grade I realized that if creationism were true not only would everyone on earth be inbred, but they would be so mutated from people having children with family that they could no longer live, if I could figure that out in the 5th grade an adult should be able to figure it out

to an atheist you are the one with everything to lose. you are living your life the way the bible and church tells you to. it seems to me once religion gets thrown into the mix everything is confusing. a lot of wars are started over it, a lot of people dying for it. It makes me chuckle that people who don't believe in evolution believe that a man built a giant boat and put 2 of every animal in it....yeah, that's possible. I don't buy it. Any of it. I believe there is something other than this but I think religion was invented by human beings thousands of years ago to manipulate people.

I'm going to stick with Atheist's Wager which is as follows
You should live your life and try to make the world a better place for your being in it, whether or not you believe in God. If there is no God, you have lost nothing and will be remembered fondly by those you left behind. If there is a benevolent God, he may judge you on your merits coupled with your commitments, and not just on whether or not you believed in him.

Your only Christian due to Divine Command Theory

The question is such...that even christians who are incorrect in their views will be considered nonbelievers by god.

Ie; those who consider NIV as 'word of GOD' will in fact be considered evil since its a fact that NIV contradicts gods word in KJ and other translations.

Also too many otherwise also inccorectly apply their faith and will in some cases be evil by deed.
my own mother n law is a 700club fanatic and is the most evil person I know despite being a popular person at her church.

You know I am a Atheist and I have respect for you?

Your the only person that's Christian who posted that question nicely.

But alas, you should read your scripture closely.

Only the messiah goes to heaven

and every other believer rots in the dirt until the kingdom comes to earth.

so you believe in god becasue you fear death and hell?
you kiss butt becasue you dont have a mind of your own?
i dont have anything to gain, and i dont want to. i love my life i live it to survive. i grow old maybe heathly who knows. if in fact god is real he will understand right because he forgives. if he doesnt forgive then what was the point of me living on earth trying to better myself. i could just kill a man and hurt everyone around me without a care. but i dont. i care for anyone help anyone. and hope that we just get along and forget about beliefs. if you have nothing to lose thats sad. i have my love, family, and friends. beliefs come last. now is the time to enjoy. risk everything buddy regret nothing.
