Learning Guitar?

Question

Ok about a year ago i got a free acoustic guitar when i bought my trumpet. I havent played the guitar or tryed to learn until now. im 15 so i think it would be something nice to know how to do.

Is there a website where i can learn how to play simple songs or atleast learn how to read the tabs of the musics. one of my friends reconmended www.ultimate-guitar.com. but i need to know how to read the taps.

also, i live on long island and i go to the beach with my friends all the time and we sit around the fire. What are some good songs that i can learn to play on the guitar to play around the fire that are good, or we can sing along to??

I've been playing the guitar for only seven months now, but I wouldn't suggest learning online. It will probably frustrate you more than help you. My first suggestion would be to receive lessons, as this is probably the best way to learn. Having someone just to teach the basics is so beneficial. If you don't want to do that, my next suggestion would be to buy some sort of instructional book. If you want you could look into a music computer program called Band in the Box. You can play along with the 'band' and there are many extra learning tools you can add to learn how to play guitar. Give it a look see. You might like it.

i play acoustic guitar. i've been playing for about a year and a half now. When i tried to start playing i went to some websites and things like that but that is a really hard way to learn i think. Then i got my dad to help me. He is pretty good and it was alot easier for me to learn with someone right there infront of me. if you don't have anyone that knows how to play. Maybe you could get one of your friends to start playing with you that way you have someone with you and that might be a help too. Hope this helps. good luck!

i think the best thing you do is find a friend, relative, loved one or someone that know how to play guitar.. you don't have to go in music school because they're very expensive sometimes.. it's good to find someone that can teach you how to play guitar. iknow how to play.

i know you asked for a website but i would recommend the book 'Guitar for Dummies', it makes it all really simple and easy to understand, the book is meant for a beginner so i think this would be perfect for you!
