Shouldn't it the be duty, responsibility, and desire of legal immigrants to learn OUR language? America gives them so much, and they take a lot. Is it asking too much to speak the language we speak? How else can we congregate, and understand each other? The American taxpayer's pay for these forms and signs in other languages. Did everyone know that?

Other immigrants who came to the US "to get a better life" learned to speak English!! We don't have options for other languages such as German or French or Polish when we call a business! Why are Spanish speaking indivuduals get special treatment because they refuse to learn English?????

In California years ago, if you couldn't speak English, you could take your drivers test at the BMV with head phones in Spanish, Chinese, or some other language other than English. I believe they have changed that now but I think that is just a bunch of crap. I live in America and shouldn't have to press 1 to get to speak to someone that speaks the language of the country. If we're going to continue that we might as well press 2 for french for the Canadian people who speak French. We can't go to Mexico and press one if we want to continue in Spanish. The US needs to stop kissing a** and just tell everyone to learn English and adapt or go back to your home country.

You won`t have to listen to that 3rd world mumbo jumbo , if you just press ZERO ; it will take you straight to the operator , or receptionist if you are calling a business ! Loss of sales and the pocket book is where you need to hit these companies have this press1 BS on their line . The last time I checked , haven`t checked lately , but Cheer washing powder was the only product that doesn`t have spanish on it anywhere . Needless to say , if Americans will do a little "checking" you will find that you haven`t lost your power of being an American Citizen ( a Legal one ) by not purchasing the things you don`t agree with . There are still banks that don`t have the press one BS on their phone , so naturally I will let them know I appreciate their refusal to have any options on their phone line , and I open my account there .

To press 1 or not to press that is the question.
It is nice we have cowed to the people that are too lazy to learn English. Brings me to Miss Califas.
We are not so lazy as the person that is lazy not to learn the language of a nation they reside. Further it is disrespectfully to ignore and disregard culture and tradition of that/this land.
You speak for Mexico & although I applaude your pride in your heritage they too are racisit. Why do they not open thier borders to the people south of them? Those people hope for a better life as well but Mexico sends it's army to protect their borders. Why does Mexico not have legal forms in Guatumalian and other languages for them but only Mexican-Sopanish?
I have said it before all peoples are racists.

I refuse to, to play this multiculturalism game, if they want my money, if they want my business and they are an American company, then they can drop that push one for english garbage.
When this happens to me, I start pushing zero or star or pound until a person comes on the phone, then I tell them I will not push buttons to here a message in American from an American company doing business with me an American, and if they want my to continue to do business with me they can drop the push one garbage.
This is America, we speak American, if you are a recent legal immigrant learn American or go back to where you came from, we do not speak your language and will not accomodate you, we speak American, it is our country and you are welcome if you want to be an American,
otherwise push two to exit our beautiful country.

Some of the people seem to think it is racist what you have asked.
Well, why is there only an English and Spanish option? Why not Chinese or Russian?
It is because Chinese and Russian and other immigrants learn to speak English! It is only the Spanish speakers that expect us to coddle them and call us racist when we do not.

Oooh! You're going to be called a racist for this.....although I fail to see the link between racism and rudeness. When you come to this country (to live) YOU need to learn the language. To expect your host to conform for YOUR convenience is downright RUDE and disrespectful. Remember they chose to come here. They should have been studying long before they left.

Yes we should. Just like we have the right to be angry when we think other people are smarter that we are for learning two languages.

So don't press it then, is someone forcing your finger down? Hang up. I never let tiny insignificant stuff like that bother me. Being English speaking citizens has no bearing on what businesses choose to do or not do. They are citizens as well and that is THEIR right.
