Why don't girls know how to take a compliment?

If a guy genuinely says a girl is pretty, she looks at him like he's stupid or thinks (rather vocally) that he's lying. Girls don't have to be a damn supermodel to be really pretty...

There are so many reasons guys may be getting that reaction to that compliment. First, a lot of girls, no matter how pretty they are, don't really think they're pretty. Second while some may be aware that they are pretty, they are smart enough to know that pretty is just that, pretty and they aspire to be more than a pretty face and a good body. Third, a lot of guys tend to think that telling a girl she's pretty is a good way to get in her pants. Unfortunately, that is true in a lot of cases, but again smart girls don't care and you have to try harder to get with them. So the bottom line is, try another more thought out personal and meaningful compliment. Saying to a girl that she's pretty is actually kind of tired.

It is mainly because some are extremely self-conscious. A girl sometimes wonders what their motive is behind the compliment. Is he making fun of fun of me/ joking or being genuinely nice? It also depends on if the girl knows the guy or not.

But not all girls are like. Some who are confident in themselves know how to take one without a second thought like they will smile and say thank you. On the other hand, some of these deny the compliment if they are just trying to "fish for more compliments".

And, of course, you get those type of girls who think if you say something nice to they will overthink it and ask themselves "why is he being nice??? Does he like me!?!?

I myself find it very hard to take compliments .. Most compliments are genuine but if a girl has trust issues or has low self esteem your compliments may go in one ear and back out of the other i say keep trying eventually she will get the message

Perhaps the girl hasn't been complimented much before, so shes unsure of whether you actually mean it or are joking, or saying it just to be nice. Low self esteem and little confidence, you might not think it but girls are under so much pressure to look a certain way and act a certain way.

Compliments are best taken as a main course and not a side dish. (even if you do mean it a compliment cannot be followed up with, or even stated during the throes of passion)

Men will do anything for sex (they are genetically programmed to, sorry ladies its our greatest weakness) women know or suspect the truth in this and then question all motives.

I see what you mean. But unlike most girls, I can take a compliment. I think the reason some girls can't take compliments is that they are self conscious about their looks or they think that you are hitting on them when they don't want you to.

Girls who are pretty do accept compliments...I never thought of a guy as lying when he complimented me..rather you don't let his complimenting go to your head, you accept it with grace and style. And you always thank him.

girls are the most sensitive creature in the world and we're most time afraid of getting hurted.
we hurt guys but we hate to be hurted.
in addition . a lot of guys use compliments to make a use of girls .
to sleep with her or trick her ,,,, etc
you know and from what we saw . we don't accept any compliments .

because when a guys says things like that,they are buttering you up for something. They are used to that,so you really meaning it does not register. Or they had people in their life make fun of thier looks,and thought that was true.

I used to that every time someone compliments me, but now I've learned to just smile and say thank you. :-)

I'm not saying I'm beautiful or pretty, just that some guys find me attractive, at least that's what they say so, LOL...
