apply for a new job when you are trying for a baby.

I know for a fact that I may not be able to concieve, and what happens if I've put my career on hold for a baby who's still not here in 10 years time, but is it inconsiderate to potential employers, and should I care?

No you shouldn't care. I'm a recruiter and my philosophy is that no one should have to choose between parenthood and livelihood.

It is not wrong at all, when concieving a baby it could happen overnight or it could take decades (hopefully not the later though) you need to still continue with your life and the only way you cvan do that is to apply for new jobs, and continue to further your career. I wish you all the luck for your future and hope both areas are successful for you. Good Luck. x x

Also you do not have to tell your employer you are tryin for a family - only if you are already pregnant. as for whether you should care or not, you will not be damaging the comany by trying to have a life outside of their so you will care for you, and the company, by giving them a good hard-working individual who will return after they have a baby - when you concieve...

No - what you do in your personal life has nothing to do with your business life. (at least most of the time :-) Having a baby is the most normal and natural thing in the world - and businesses should have to accommodate women.

I was trying to get pregnant for a year, and ended up getting a new job just a few weeks before I became pregnant. They couldn't have been nicer to me at work.

Also, if you're pregnant you may need the medical benefits. Just don't go for a job that will have you on your feet too much.

Good luck sweetie!

I say go for it. You don't wanna be stuck at home all day losing your mind over whether or not you're pregnant each month. A job might make the time go by faster. And if you do get pregnant right away there isn't anything they can do about it. It's up to you when you tell your employer, you don't need to tell them at all but eventually ya know they'll figure it out. You can't be fired for being pregnant, it's illegal. The only thing they can fire you for is if you're pregnancy greatly interferes with you're work performance like if you're late to work a lot due to morning sickness. When I was pregnant I was always late for work and always getting out of work, but I'm in the Army so they couldn't exactly fire me. Good luck with your decision.

I think that you should go on with the new job, but just be on the safe side just in case you do get pregnant that you will be a healthy mother when you do find out that you are pregnant. The only thing you have to do is give it time and one day you will get pregnant and you will be happy that you are finally having what you wanted. About the job, just work to save some money for when you do get pregnant so you can get everything that you want your baby to have when you have it.

why not? it isn't wrong to apply for a new job when trying for baby. If you feel its the right time to have a baby why should changing your job stop you. I think, if you could do both. Chances are you may look to other methods of having a baby IVF and so on.

You should try both. get that job and keep it, you will soon have baby, where theres a will theres a way and I don't think you will regret it.

apply for the job. employers know when they employ women there is always a chance of them getting pregnant...and if they dont they must be very stupid!!
even though you are trying for a baby you do not want it to consume the rest of your life, so get your career off to a flying start and worry about being pregnant when the time comes. good luck x x

starting a family is personal business, now i do realize that in this situation ur job could be effected (maternity leave, child care, sick kid, etc.). a lot of companies do ask if u plan to start a family anytime soon, but i think that may be like against the law, and ur perfectly w/in ur rights to tell them it is none of their business. i would NOT keep away from the job market while trying to conceive. besides, u'll need the extra $ for the baby anyway. most workplaces r very good about this stuff. just remember, ur health insurance will go up! and it may not be in effect for a while.

If your not pregnant yet then no i think you should search for a new job if thats what you really want. Get the job now and maybe by the time you are pregnant or have the baby you'll have some vaca time to take off w/ the baby and maybe even some insurance.

I got a new job when I was 17 weeks pregnant. I don't give a **** if it's "inconsiderate" to potential employers; my ability to reproduce should have no bearing on my employability, and the law's on our side as far as that goes.

Incidentally, the company that hired me knew I was pregnant and hired me anyway.

Every woman that is employed has the potential of becoming PG at some point during their career, it is a part of human life, it is not inconsiderate, and poses no real problem
