There is no conversion from ft^2 to ft. They are 2 different entities.

ft. is a measure of distance.
ft^2 is a measure of area, like the surface of a floor.

"Sqft" means "square feet", a measure of surface area. If the floor of a room has an area of 450 sq. ft., it means it would take 450 square tiles (1 foot by 1 foot) to cover it.
