I did check the engine oil and it's good. What do you suggest is the problem and how can I solve it immediately. I have an important trip to attend tomorrow and don't want to catch problems on the road.

did you recently fill up on gas?..make sure your gas cap is on tight, maybe get it to go 5 clicks.

its stupid, but yes that will cause check engine lights to come on, might take a day or 2 for it to go off after you check the cap.

A check engine light can mean any number of things, from the very minor to the horrendously catastrophic. If you have a Haynes manual, you can do a self-diagnostic...if not, have a mechanic run a diagnostic for you. I would advise doing this before going on any long trips.

There are over 80 things that can cause the light to go on. Most of them are pretty minor. Mine's been on forever and there is nothing noticable wrong. You would have to go to a shop and pay to have them hook it up to the computer and see what it is. I refuse to do that. Good luck.

to find out you would have to have the engine coded, it may be as simple as a programmed scheduled maintence item. If the engine is running fine don't worry about it. these check engine lights makes tons of money for the dealers

No telling without a mechanic doing a computer diagnostic on it. I would not risk a trip with this car if I were you, it could stop on you at any time.

It could just be a sensor, but there's no way to tell without a diagnosis. See your mechanic as soon as possible. in the meantime, maybe you ought to rent a car, just to be on the safe side.
