If the earth would come to a complete and instant stop from its current velocity (both in spin and in movement through space) EVERYTHING on this planet would instantly die.
The circumference of the Earth at the equator is 25,000 miles. The Earth rotates in about 24 hours. Therefore, if you were to hang above the surface of the Earth at the equator without moving, you would see 25,000 miles pass by in 24 hours, at a speed of 25000/24 or just over 1000 miles per hour.
Earth is also moving around the Sun at about 67,000 miles per hour.

If the earth stopped spinning "instantly", everything on it would fly off because of the centifugal force. Because of inertial forces, all the oceans would form massive tidal waves that would proceed (at about 1000 miles per hour at the equator) in an Easterly direction and destroy anything left standing after the initial "stop". There would be little left by the time the minute was up and the earth began turning again.
P.S. The moon would be thrown out of orbit, too, and would head off into the outer Solar System.

It's going to stand still again and not just for one minute. The earth will stop spinning and reverse its spin. The sun will once again rise in the west.
Okay, everybody. The earth goes through this very thing every few thousand years. It is recorded history. The sun has not always risen in the east. It is a natural phenomena and is caused by the return of our suns twin, a brown dwarf sun. Why do you think the elite are offering $$$ to anyone that can come up with viable deep space travel?

Actually, you have it wrong. According to scripture, the SUN stood still, not the earth!
"So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, till the people had revenge upon their enemies" and "the sun stood still in the midst of heaven, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day" (Joshua 10:13). God did this so that the Israelites would have more daylight to fight the battle and slaughter their enemy.

You are, no doubt, referring to the account at Joshua 10:8-14, where the sun is said to have stood still so that Joshua could get full victory.
God could, of course, stop the motions of the whole solar system. Or, he could just stop the motion of earth so that sun and moon appeared to remain in the same position as humans view it from the earth. On the other hand, it is possible that the sun, moon and earth all continued on in their regular movements, but that the light from sun and moon shone non-stop by some form of refraction that we do not now understand.
Whatever God did, apparently not too much at all would happen if earth "stood still" for one minute.

Yes, I think it is written in the book of Joshua. Nothing that bad seemed to happen in the bible so im guessing that nothing would happen now. Maybe some people would be scarred but thats about it.
The reason it stood still in the bible because of a war so with bush in office it might happen.

Before that the earth would have to slow down its speed which will change all the environment. Befor earth stops, most of the living beings will be destroyed.

"What would happen if Earth stood still for only one minute?"
Miss Catherine says, "Nothing specatular, really."
I guess it depends on how spectacular it would be when the Moon leaps out of its orbit, as it would, and collides with Earth, which it would. Bang, boom, bang, holy talking donkey poop!!!
