I believe that it would be quetioned just like Joseph Smith's message was. His message should be tested against the Bible.
What some fail to realize is that for millions of people faith in Jesus Christ has been found to be enough. It has been found to be the ultimate answer. As such who among the millions of spirit-filled Christians would need a new gospel and a different message? There is still only one name by which we can be saved.

All it takes is one person to say it and a person to hear it and repeat it . With today's communication and media outlet . It could reach a lot of people . It also depends on what channel it is . Something like Fox news ( very Conservative ) would mock and ridicule it . while others might be open .
It would create a religious fervor on the Christian side . Call it evil , so forth and so on , but that might actually help it . Take a look at all the things that got negative press and just get more popular ( like music ) .
If Jedi ( star wars ) can become the dominant religion in across the globe ( over a half million ) Then anything is possible .

Same thing that happened to Joseph Smith. Some would believe his message, others would not. More people would hear of it quicker because of the media. Whether it would grow like Mormonism depends on the message.

For Skiingstowe: SO all us LDS people are uneducated and can't think for ourselves? I think not!! I have a masters degree and yes, I think for myself. I even looked into other religions before I decided that this one fit my belief structure the best.
As far as what would happen today, he would probably be seen as a dumb 14 year old who was telling tales, would get a lot of media attention, and not for the good, be ostracized for what he believed, and then be locked up against his will in a mental hospital doped up on meds so he couldn't think for himself.
It's a sad commentary on this day and age when someone can say something they believe and get nothing but ridicule and outright hostility.
But, he would probably have some followers, and be taken seriously by a select few.

It is not just today's communication and media that is different, but also the spiratuality of the people was different. There were many people that didn't believe a lot of what most religions were saying. Today, a lot of people are confused by their religion so they just don't go to church. That was practically unheard of those days. Plus most 14year old these days are that humble that they would be believable.

If he found some ancient plates and translated them and gave his all to testify that it is the Word of God.
Actually, I think the same thing would happen that happened to Joseph Smith.

Hi,
Anyone who has studied scripture would have seen right through Joseph Smith in his day, and would see right through another Joseph Smith today. Jesus warned his followers about this type of deception.....even if it came from Angels. False Prophets and their teachings will come and go just as Jesus foretold. This is nothing new, but the uneducated will always fall prey to deceivers. Satan roams around like a roaring lion seeking to devour, so this has been given to us as a warning to be on the look out for false teachings. The only way to know if they are false is to check the scriptures. I suggest that you do the same.

Well if he was selling moonstones like Smith was in NY, he might be collared by the bunko squad and thrown in jail like Smith was. I doubt it would spread like it did then. Smith, a convicted con man, alledgedly used a moonstone( witchcraft fortune telling device) to find the alledged Tablets of Moroni which only he alledgedly saw, and only he could alledgedly interpret. This was the basis of his founding of Mormonism and the Book of Mormon. It is amazing that a con man could fool so many people and continues to do so today. Mormonism is a lie founded by a false prophet. Come to Christ. Cap'n Arlo

The way American people are now, yea, he would probably make 3 million dollars his first week. Have about 100,000 members his second week. Be on every TV station and radio station his third week. Then finally be caught up in a scandel his fourth week.
