silver, red, yellow, dark red, pink, primary blue, bright green, use a bold color and put some funky decorations in there, make it look as if you intended for it to be kind of out there, a cool area rug wouldn't hurt either
just use lots of modern artsy crap and it will at least be unique

The floor is wood? if you can afford the paint for the walls, you can afford the paint for the floor.
If you can't paint the floor because it's tile, then just ignore it. You know you will be changing it eventually, so for now, invest in an inexpensive rug to cover most of the floor and then choose your wall paint accordingly. If the room is bright, you can get away with more color on the walls, but you shouldn't automatically rule out white walls.

Black an white checker board just screams for RED and chrome. Like a 50's sock hop maybe. Those colors are invigorating so may be perfect for a themed room.

While everyone will say 'red' - and it does work nicely - it is trite. Go with a nice bright yellow. It's a rec room...and it should be a fun place to be. Use black for tables and chairs with a pot of yellow flowers on the table. Have a sofa in bl/wh stripes or buffalo checks...with a couple of bright yellow throw pillows and one red one (as an accent). Use bl/wh toile fabric for the drapes/curtains. Use a black lamp shade on a small table lamp with a green plant underneath. Hang black and white framed posters and you will have a fantastic, fun room!
Hope this helps. :)

it depends on what u'r trying to in that room. Like do u want some retro or funky or more tone down. black & white ck'd floors r awsome for retro etc look so u can go w/ a red/ or a deep red/ aqua/teal/green or lt green/yellows/ pinks/.. if u do this, i would paint the walls all a diff. shade of that color so it would give i depth as well.
if u'r looking to tone it down. Then try tans/ lt. greys.. dusty purple/ deep teal/ along those lines.
Once u start putting things on the walls as well as in the room... the cks will tone down depending on which way u go
B creative & have fun~

A medium-dark warm sandy grey would provide a great background for artwork that will introduce an accent colour while bringing out the warmer tones in the granite. If you don't already have art to hang, you should consider some sepia-toned photographs in black frames with wide off-white mats - it would make a stunning contrast with your black, white and grey theme. Good luck!

You could paint the walls a tan color and accent the room with pillows and accessories with a punch of bright yellows, reds or greens. Good Luck!

A nice sage (light) would look nice as would a light tan. You want the room (Kitchen?) to be clean and bright, you could also go with a rose tint or a yellow tint. You want some color, you could go white with a red accent, that would look excellent in a kitchen. It also depends on your motif...if you have chickens for example the black and white with red is gorgeous, and you could accent with greens and yellows....E-mail me here and we can go into more detail with more information on your room! Bright red would be a great punch color to the room. If you're not into the bright colors then go for a blue.
have fun!
