I understand the point of your question. Technically an egg is not meat or vegetable. But for what you need to know, it would be more along the lines of meat-ish. Read down further. A person who was raised not eating meat explains further.

Eggs come from animals....they would be considered a "meat product" or "protein"

They are certainly not a vegetable.

****Also, in response to some of the other people who replied: Poultry IS meat. Dairy comes from animals too, though eggs are NOT a dairy product. Dairy products are products such as milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, butter. Dairy products, as well as eggs are products that come from animals.

Some people refer to eggs as a "poultry" product and some people refer to eggs as a "dairy" product. Neither of these are strictly correct, eggs are pretty much in a class of their own. They are definitely not considered to be "meat" or "vegetables".

I cannot prove you right or wrong because I don't know you, can't see you, don't know what and how much you eat and what other things that you do or don't do that makes you healthy or unhealthy. the question header says "diet debate question, vegetarians vs. meat eaters?" The only thing I can definitely say is that whoever thinks that fish and seafood are a part of vegetarian's diet is wrong. Are the people criticizing you vegetarian or are you saying you are vegetarian? Because if you are, then you are wrong. If they also think you are vegetarian, then all of you are wrong. But only on the definition.

On the food pyramid it is grouped with meat and fish, it is actually a protein so you can considered it in the meat group but in itself it really isn't either. Since this is what we base our nutrition on I would say its a safe answer

Neither. Eggs are animal products like milk, honey etc. and are considered acceptable to modern vegetarians (not orthodox), since no pain is caused to the hen and the egg is sterile (not fertilised).

If you are a vegan, eggs, milk, honey etc. are not for you.
