I believe the last fight to go a scheduled 15 rounds involved Ray Mancini. His opponent died after a KO in the 13th round, and boxing authorities quickly moved to make the bouts 12 rounds.
I'm not sure there was much logic there, as a boxer can be injured at any time. Fifteen rounds -- an hour, with rest periods -- is such a classic distance. I'd like to see it returned.

They stopped all 15 round fights after a death in a fight. I doubt that the length had anything to do with it since fighters have died in less than 12 rounds.

No it doesn't. I think that the rules where changed after the Ali era in boxing ended. Boxers simply do not have the endurance to go 15 rds anymore
