instead of creating a person (his son) and killing him? that seems kind of cowardly and not a real sacrifice, especially considering that jesus went to heaven and is currently hanging out with his dear old dad.
can you help me understand this?

dan - i gave you thumbs down. why? because you're completely wrong. if people give a valid answer that makes good sense, even if it is not my opinion, i give them a thumbs up! i bet you think that i'm going to choose an answer that corresponds with my beliefs, don't you. well you're wrong again. i will choose the answer that best answers the question. sometimes i don't get an answer that satisfies me though

It's done in movies all the time. They will create a 4 million dollar set (gee, think of how many people that money would have fed...enough segue) and then destroy it.
Why. To make a point to the audience.
And it works.
First you have to realize that life is artificial. There is no life. God created it. Science defines it as a bunch of atoms, molecules, strings and quarks.
ALL the universe, according to science, comes from a rudiemtary building block, currently one group calls them quarks another calls them strings.
You are NOTHING but STRINGS or QUARKS according to science, you just happen to occupy this current shape and have finite biological existances on a temporial level.
Since LIFE is just another form of the organization of MASS and since the MASS of the universe is always constant, according to science, God makes no distinction, since he didn't destory anything, it's only been converted to something else.
We call that something else sprit for the lack of a better term.
Jesus was here to tell the temporial man of Life things about how to live and to demonstrate that the physics of the universe are not fixed but can be changed and converted (walking on water, changing water into wine, bring the dead back to life, curing the sick).
But you gotta know what you're doing and God is a master at that and Jesus was privy to that insight.
Then God and Jesus did the big hat trick. Death of Jesus, followed by ressurection to show you that it is only your MIND that limits your view of the universe.
You think in limitations of the finite temporial, not in terms of the universe as a greater whole.
Even sciences tends to agree with that view.
That's what Einstein was about. Seeing deeper and further into the universe to explain how things are and work.
Eistein gave us our own hat trick. Converting water into Deuterium (Heavy Water) which makes Atom bombs (refining Uranium ore or Pultonium isotopes work faster and better and use less processing and smaller qualitites of mass to do the same hat trick as Heavy Water).
See, by having a further view of the Universe man is able to "change water" into something else.
We just can't do it with sheer will or whatever "secret" method God imparted to Jesus.

In the first place God created us purposely to live peacefully and abundantly but because of transgression and sins which were committed since the beginning, God already made his plan to restore what we should be...if we will understand the Bible there's a plan for restoration since first man committed sin unfortunately all failed ( the last plan is that they dont believe John the Baptist that Jesus is the Messiah)and the hardest plan to redeem the world is thru ressurection of Jesus (so He must die first), just imagine what the world now if people then believe on Jesus. GOD did not sent Jesus here in on earth just to die, He was sent here to change the people and put them back to GOD and to realize the Kingdom of Heaven on Earth. But, GOD did not make us do what He only wants but He made us to use our own free will, the power to choose bad from wrong, good from evil. Sad to say majority of us still choose evil ways. If we will see the events in this present world there are still so many signs that GOD is working so that HIS original plan for us will be attained. May GOD Bless you.

God did sacrifice himself. Jesus is part of the 3-fold or triune God (the father, son and holy spirit). Jesus is part of God, He is God and in the Bible He says many times "I and the Father are one". It is a hard concept to grasp that one supreme being ie God can in fact be 3 beings in one. Think of water - it can be steam, liquid water or ice, but it is still water in some form.
God commited a huge sacrifice for us, but He didn't kill Jesus. People did. The same people He helped in His ministry and who he came to rescue from sin and evil.
Jesus suffered an excruciatingly painful and humiliating death
to take our evil (and sins, if you like) away so that mankind again can be right with God and hang out with Him too. He sent a comforter (the third part of the trinity, the holy spirit) to support us and be a guide in our travels through life.
I reckon you should have a read of the first couple of books of the New Teatament. It explains a lot. Keep enquiring, and keep trying to understand. It gets clearer.

Alright, let's back up.
G-d did sacrifice himself for Christians. But it is the belief that G-d is beyond this world. That G-d in his full form cannot come done and dwell among humans.
So G-d had to be born into this world as a human. He had to take on the human life in order to be able to die for humans.
Some Christians also believe that G-d came in human form so that he could experience the life of humans and understand the suffering on earth. That G-d could not understand what it meant to be human until he became one.
I am not a Christian, but honestly I don't see anything of a coward in Jesus. Jesus never ran, never begged his accusars to free him. He faced what was happening without trying to run away. So if Jesus was G-d, then how can you claim that G-d is a coward?

Jesus was a son of God already when God sent him according to John 3:16 notice it says God sent (in past) his son, he is the firstson of God (Colossians 1:15-17) he has many sons (Job 1:6 and 2:1)
God almighty he choosed the first one to "fix" a problem created by the firstson of God in earth Adam (Luke 3:38). Jesus (his human name) is the first angel of God the bible call them "sons" to all angels also "Servants" (Isaiah 42:1 and Hebrew 2:8),
The accusation that Satan did (in the book of Job) is that nobody can be Loyal to God if is subjected to persecution that accusation was done to the principal worshipper of God his firstson (Jesus his human name) that is Why God sent him to prove to Satan that people no matter in what condition can be loyal to God almighty that is why Jesus came to earth and spent years in a planet without the facilities we have now and let people treat him bad to prove Satan that he will remain loyal to his Father, this the first purpose of Jesus´s death the second is for pay our "debt" as cancelled the "Mortage" because we can only afford the "rates" and not the "Capital" talking in "loan languages".
I understand your question why a human being need to born, to be a sacrifice? it is about a legal process, God can´t break his own rules and REPEAT HE CAN´T BREAK HIS OWN RULES NO MATTER IF HE IS ALMIGHTY if he forgives the humans without doing what he already did then he broke his own rules that if you sin you died given in the book of Genesis to Adam.
Adam sinned and gave us that heritage like if you father or grandfather did and investment and loose all the money and now you are poor cause they condem you, exactly the same Adam did, someone has to take the place of Adam, Jesus called in the bible the second Adam took the place of Adam as our "Eternal father" (Isaiah 9:6) and now our heritage is Eternal life what Adam lost (remember the investment example) Jesus became the subtitute of Adam and "Fix" the problem.

The Trinity -
Father, Son and Holy Spirit. God did sacrifice Himself for us.
Ask any parent that loves their child - do they not feel that their child is a part of them? Does the parents' heart and spirit not rip out of them when their child dies.
You may not believe, and I do not believe the teachings of some faiths, but do not be so flippant. It makes you look like the fool.

Good question. But you will likely get a lot of wacky answers from people who believe that God was not only God but also his own son, and that one prayed to the other, and that somehow they can be the same entity yet hang out together.

this is God's sacrifice that He made. He sent his Son to die for our sins. A sacrifice is giving something away that you love. How could it be a sacrifice if he did it to him self?

if God sacrificed Himself then where would we be now..Tell me..how much would you have to love someone to sacrifice your child for???It wasn't because he didn't love it is because he love us.the very unworthy so much..Like you said Jesus is in Heaven with his father. Life is all about pain and suffering and struggle. why do you think it would be different for the son of god?.Thanks be to God for allowing Jesus to pay for my sins. He went to Hell 3 days so I wouldn't have to. Spend time being happy that you don't have to go to hell to get to heaven and give God a break. He gave you one.

You don't want to learn. Every time there is a good answer you put a thumbs down on it. You just want to give us propaganda to try to "disprove" and contradict Christianity.
