in my opinions XP is better.
because XP requires less amount of memory and is also fast compared to vista.
in vista due to heavy graphics it is slow.
in vista we have a inbuilt facility to content search but we can install it in XP too.
w.r.t memory consumption XP is good and if u want rich look then go for vista.
p.s : if u have 1GB RAM then only install vista other wise the 3D desktop and glass effect will not work properly.

It depends what you mean by "better". I'll assume you are thinking of upgrading to Vista. If not, re-post with specifics.
Vista on a NEW machine is probably OK, but make sure there are Vista drivers for your Printer, Scanner, Camera, etc. FIRST. These are what cause most migration problems. Not all XP applications work in Vista, either.
Upgrading to Vista on an older PC is not a good idea YET, use the free Windows Vista Upgrade Advisor (Below:) to test your PC's compatibility.
Then, wait until all the manufacturer's have Vista drivers in place. Until then, stick with XP.

Unless you have the latest hardware (not more than about 3 months old) I would go with XP. I upgraded to Vista and there have several issues with applications, hardware, and drivers. There are a lot of things I like about Vista, but you have to get used to doing things a little differently.

Xp is better than Vista. Vista is not so bad but there are many errors in the system.

I would say vista, as my xp computer is super slow. Also, my vista isn't hooked up to the internet, and this might be why I think vista is better.

Defintiely XP. I've had nothing but problems since I've bought a laptop that has vista. It is a memory hog and unless you know how to stop it from indexing it will use up all your memory. I am going toing take of vista and put xp on this laptop. I really want to switch to apple, I am pretty much over microsoft.

XP is better at the moment. Vista is marvelous but most non-Microsoft software hasn't caught up to the technology. Once the technology and code for non-Microsoft software catches up, Vista will be THE thing.
