Will the US be willing to stay in Iraq for the next 12 years? I think thats the more pertinent question. The statistics show otherwise. Apart from the human costs, the cost of the war is seen as being extremely prohibitive. Something like USD 1.0 billion a week, with USD 40 Billion needed to service or replace damaged equipment.
Coming back to your quetion though, in my honest opinion, unless there is a drastic change in strategy, in mindset and execution, yes, the US will still not be able to win in Iraq. The US are not able to win the hearts and minds of the majority of the Iraqis, are not able to counter the insurgents, nor able to apprehend the fact that democracy, though the most noblest form of government, can not prosper if the population are not of a certain standard of education, if security concerns are not addressed. One can not expect 30 years of rule by Saddam, by living within a dictatorship and where sectarian hostilities are brutally suppressed that the population can grasp the meaning of democracy, can run a democracy and even more impotantly, let old animosities lie. A huge change in mindset is needed.
PS. It would help to acknowledge that the Palestinian and Israeli conflict is the root of all this warmonggering.

There is a possibility that they will end up losers in the war in Iraq. It is always difficult to win battles in a foreign land for the following reasons: 1) there is less support from the people in the land you are occupying or doing battle in, 2) unfamiliarity with the place or terrain, 3) wars are real expensive, 4)less or no support from the people or government officials of the occupying country, 5) low morale of soldiers and maybe, 6) long wars don't win battles.
Let the lesson of the Vietnam war not be forgotten in the minds of the Americans.

No. The Democrats vowed to bring our troops home and end the war in 2006. That hasn't happened yet. But if we get a Dem president it will happen shortly after that. So they say. We shall see. Regardless, we are not going to be the losers in the war. The losers are going to be the Iraqi's because they still cannot stand up for themselves against the insurgents. It's a personal choice they choose not too. It's easier to be afraid then to stand up.

First of all, aside from Britain your "allies" do not exist except in the dysfunctional minds of people like you and Bush who need to given the impression that loads of countries are supporting Bush's crime against humanity in Iraq.
Secondly Bush's illegal "Shock and Awe" unleashed decades old animosities among the Iraqi peoples (just like the death of Tito resulted in "ethnic cleansing".
There is now a full scale CIVIL WAR going on in Iraq thanks to Bush.
Like in Vietrnam ,there is NO chance the US will come home anything but a loser although many will lie/obfuscate in a pathetic attempt to convince themselves and others that they have come home winners.
One thing that is for sure thanks to the "crime against humanity Bush" is that the over 400,000 slaughtered innocent Iraqi men, women and children and literally millions of loved ones left behind do not consider themselves "winners".
And many have the momumental ignorant gall to wonder WHY THEY HATE US SO MUCH.

You don't get it do you?
We aren't fighting a war directly with Iraq now, we are fighting a proxy war with the Islamic radicals from all over the world who are being recruited, trained and supported by countries like Iran. Countries, who I will add, that are not willing to directly confront the U.S. and it's allies.
So, if we pull out of Iraq today, we will still be fighting these people, except it will be in Europe and in the U.S..
The World is the battleground.

no they will come home with the what if or they should have done this syndrome. Or if we had more time syndrome. Always works that way. Iraq will turn into a blood bath when NATO leaves. It is just not the US there.

I think we have gotten a little taste of what happens when we don't do nothing(091101).. Whether we like it or not We are very committed, if we lose, it will be because of our selves, This is our world from now on, the only thing those people over there understand is strength.

Ok, we'll pull out in 3 months and then just sit and wait for them to bring the fight to us. Because that's what would happen. Then maybe people like you would stop bitching about how unfair blah blah blah it is if it were happening in your back yard.
Give it time, you'll see

you are the loser.
The Democrats own defeat. The USA is the only hope for the world and you cowards need to wake up or you better start reading the Koran as they will have your head thanks to Clinton for not doing any thing in the 1990's. In "Osma bin Laden's words the left has no spine".
