The illumination input tells the head unit when the vehicle's lights are turned on. When it detects voltage on the wire, it dims the display. An illumination connection isn't necessary for the deck to work.

It sounds like you probably have a poor ground connection. You may have used the wrong wire for ground. I'd disconnect the ground wire and connect it directly to a metal part in the dash or firewall.

If you don't have any leftover wires, then it's possible that you connected your ground wire to the vehicle's illumination wire. Does the deck turn off when you turn the lights on?

You usually set the clock on a new Sony player by pressing and holding the volume knob. Didn't you get an owner's manual with the new player?

if your car doesnt have an illumination wire to connect it to then dont worry about it. it probably cuts out because you are over powering it.. i wouldnt turn it up all the way anyway. the clock im not sure, havent played with a sony stereo in awhile.. but most likely its when you turn the stereo off and hod the display button, it should open up a menu which has the clock in it. if not, its brand new.. look in the manual, thats why they give you one lol
