Prayer is our communication to God. When you say communication, there must be a receiver and a transmitter. We usually transmit our prayer to God and God answers by fulfilling our needs.
But not all prayers are being hear by God: The prophet Isaiah (59) said; " 1 Surely the arm of the LORD is not too short to save,
nor his ear too dull to hear.
2 But your iniquities have separated
you from your God;
your sins have hidden his face from you,
so that he will not hear.
God set rules for Him to hear our prayers. The Lord said; "if my people, who are called by my name, will humble themselves and pray and seek my face and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and will heal their land. (2 Chronicle 7:14).
Jesus Christ have though as how to pray (Luke 11:2-4) and he promised as that whatever we asked for will be given if we believe. In Mark 11:24 Jesus said; "Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours."

prayer is when you can talk to your best friend and tell him anything and he does not hold it against you. Jehovah wants you to talk with him and you can anytime of the day or night. and since God is your best friend, he has a name and it is Jehovah and you end your prayer by saying in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. just like the son has a name, so does his Father. read ps 83 verse 18. also when you have a problem you have to learn to leave it with Jehovah and go on. also ask for forgiveness of your sins because sometimes you do and don't even know you are sinning

Prayer is how we communicate with God. It can be done outloud, or in our minds. God already knows what we want before we ask it, but through prayer we can come closer to what God wants for us and end up being happier.
For those who do not believe in God, meditation is something very similar that anyone can benifit from. By spending time alone and quieting our minds, we can reduce stress and process information easier.

Check ABC TV's archives for Doctors and prayer. It is a proven fact that patients who prayed before surgery had a greater recovery rate than patients who didn't pray first. Also it keeps the mind focused on God and builds Faith. Also I know scores of people who prayed for something and got an answer, like a job, bills paid, healed sickness, etc..

"Prayer is the practice of the presence of God. It is the place where pride is abandoned, hope is lifted, and supplication is made. Prayer is the place of admitting our need, of adopting humility, and claiming dependence upon God. Prayer is the needful practice of the Christian. Prayer is the exercise of faith and hope. Prayer is the privilege of touching the heart of the Father through the Son of God, Jesus our Lord."

God really is not any different than mankind and if someone asks for something God is willing to give you the desires of your heart but you must ask believing and have faith in what you are asking for. God will answer according to your faith, but some answers require much more asking than others and this is what prayer is; Daniel in the Bible prayed for twenty one days to get an answer one time and the Devil fought hard for him not to get this answer; Daniel 10:13
But the prince of the kingdom of Persia withstood me one and twenty days: but, lo, Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me; and I remained there with the kings of Persia.
A note on prayer, God prefers you to pray for others rather than yourself or your own wants and needs; James 4: 2 Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.

Gilbert,
Prayer is a Christian's personal or public conversations with the FATHER of all things. Have a wonderful LORD'S DAY.

It collimates the mind of the supplicant. Note that there is no practical difference between prayer, meditation, reiki or other forms of collimation, and that prayer does not need an object (deity) to be effective.
This can be shown with an EEG of a person in such a state.

we each have a direct line of communication to God.
Prayer is talking with him and thanking him for our food, clothing, and shelter. Also our families and friends. When we have problems God offers to help with them by telling us to give them to him....and he will work them out. He even says if they are too heavy for us to carry to roll them upon him and he himself will sustain us.
We are encouraged to pray incessantly wherever we are and also upon our bed.
Pray for others and yourself. Ask God to work out his purposes in your life.
Jesus gave us a model prayer at Matthew 6:9 that is not to be repeated word for word. It is an outline for our use.

Prayer is communication with GOD. It aligns our will with the will of GOD. It is also one on one fellowship with the authors of life. I find it to be the highest privilege we have as humans.
