Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.
That's religion in a nutshell.

I have not read the whole Bible, however, I do recognize that for me the best messages from the bible have to do with tales like the one about the talents, where the three sons are given a determined amount of money and after some time the father asks each what they did: one duplicated his amount, the second invested and also got benefits, the last kept it hidden, and this one was scolded. Lesson here: if you have a talent use it, that's your blessing.
Another tale talks about the maidens and the oil lamps, in which of a group half filled their lamps to be ready for their lords arrival while the others did not; at the end their lord came during midnight, one group went into town with their lamps and reached their lord, the other group could not make it because their lamps ran out of oil. Lesson here: always be ready, and don't be lazy. Also, keep the word of the Lord, if you want to be all religious about the passage.
Depending on your life and experience, you can find other things in the bible that are noteworthy.

Wow, deep subject.
I would say that Jesus telling Nicodemus that he must be born again is the most important lesson.
After that, I guess it would be the sermon on the mount.
All the letters that Paul wrote to the different churches are important.
Genesis is crucial to the whole Bible...The Ten Commandments.....
Probably it would be best to say the whole Bible has important lessons....
How about a theological debate? :)

I feel over all the most important lesson is learning and beleiveing by faith alone that Jesus has risen.
On personal note it could be anything.
With my son it was the story of Moses. It was where he stated I cannot do this Lord because I speak to slow. My son was struggling with how could he get in front of the congression and speak about his experience. My husband showed him that verse. He wrote that verse into his speach. He was in middle school at that time. He gave a 5 minute speach. Later on he turned that speach into serman. He contacted local churches and asked if he could come to give a sermon. He did that and the message was clear. The message was dont let your fears hold you back from serving God. He said to me afterwords that "Mom, I had really old people learn something from me today and one guy was crying. He said my message touched him that much and he gave himself to Christ." With my son that was a big deal because he has a language auditory processing problem and has trouble with speaking. He was still in speach at that time.)
My daughter when I asked her that questions she said, "Mom, I think it is the parables that are most meaniful to me as a person, but overall the message is THE LORD HAS RISEN INDEED"

The most important lesson is that when a book is written by a committee, of course it will be full of glaring errors and inconsistencies.

Jesus said:
"Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the desert, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in him may have eternal life. For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
(John 3:14-16)NIV"
Jesus said:
"For my Father's will is that everyone who looks to the Son and believes in him shall have eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day."(John 6:40)NIV
"After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven and prayed:
"Father, the time has come. Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you. For you granted him authority over all people that he might give eternal life to all those you have given him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent."(John 17:1-3)NIV
"Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne."(Revelation 3:19-21)NIV

I'm not sure what the lesson is but it's still my favorite quote. I think God's trying to tell us lust is bad.
"There she lusted after her lovers, whose genitals were like those of donkeys and whose emission was like that of horses."
-- Ezekiel 23:20
