christianity isnt for mankind, its for christains. there are countless other beliefs out there all pointing to the same direction, if people could remember that and not act so chauvinistic about their particular belief, things probably wouldnt be so bad.

Christianity has many sects. As an ex-Catholic I automatically assume you mean the Catholic faith, but there is also others - Orthodox and Protestants (United, Anglican-which extends to Evangelical, Morons........).
I think the Christian movement near the beginning, after Christ died and left the Earth, became politiced and power hunger when it was trying to form a founding belief system at the same time trying to compete with the already established religions- Judism, Paganism, Hinduism, etc.
I believe in the following several centuries that is when the Church began to create its absurd doctrines and dogmas and forever separating itself from the very teachings of Christ.. They were challenged by the established religions of that day about their outrageous claims (which consisted of a little bit of many religions-you should read the parallels between Christian dogma and ancient Egypt) that the Church took an "all or nothing" approach, you believe in everything we say without question or you are not part of us. This did not hold much water until leaders like Emperor Constantine became Christian.
Then the Catholic Church became very powerful and spread quickly "in the name God", committing the historical atrocities.
So I don't think Christianity failed mankind, like someone else already mentioned, I think mankind failed a great teacher.

Man has failed mankind, Christianity is a fairy tale belief system based on astrotheology and SUN worship. The other religions are no better. Someday all the religious nuts will kill each other off in their holy war jihads trying to bring about their messiahs, and atheists will take over the world.

I think the better question is, "Has mankind failed Christianity?"

No.... despite what man has made of it... it is still the only way God has provided for us to come before Him. It is about living a spiritual life, not a religious life, in relationship with the living God. Our religions are about reaching for God or enlightenment, but Christianity is about God reaching for mankind. I've tried the others... I'll stick with what works...

The basic tenent of Christianity is "You shall love your God with all of your heart, soul, mind and strength and your neighbor as yourself".
It is Christians that have NOT followed this tenent that have failed mankind.
