Did you know that in many communities in the USA, local governments are allowing Muslims to string up loud speakers in multiple places throughout town to broadcast the 5-times daily call to prayer? Local noise ordinances are also being overlooked so that they can do their call to prayer.

Do you agree with this? I mean c'mon, why can't these people set the alarm on their wrist watch?

That's a good point. I believe that the Muslim proponents have claimed that these calls to prayer are no different from church bells ringing. All I can say is that if they start having loud speakers in my community announcing something every day between 6am and 10pm I'm not going to be happy even if it was a reading of the Scriptures telling people the words of Jesus.

HAMTRAMCK, Mich. — Over some residents' objections, the City Council voted unanimously Tuesday night to allow a mosque to send out a call to prayer to Muslims on a loudspeaker.

The Bangladeshi al-Islah mosque asked for permission to air the Arabic call to prayer via loudspeakers five times a day, though it compromised by agreeing not to air the call before 6 a.m. or after 10 p.m.

Some Muslims say the call is the equivalent of church bells. Opponents argued that church bells have no religious significance and that allowing the Arabic call, which lasts less than two minutes, unfairly elevates Islam above other religions.

diplomacy! I myself don't agree with the loud speakers, because i feel the same with the catholic church here in the philippines during christian holy weeks or months, the loud speakers are really annoying. Its noise pollution. If the companions (ra) of the prophet (peace be upon him) did need to make their call to prayers as far as 5 kilometers, there would be repeaters in every corner of the community. But there was only 1, on top of the minaret (tall tower) besides the mosque, or 1 on top of the mosque, with both hands of the muzzin (caller) positioned by his mouth.
Also, i wonder why most religious congregations, muslim or not, who only occupy a small area would use sound systems in their teachings, it affects the sense of hearings to those present making them habitually talk in louder voice everywhere because the ears are somewhat impaired.
With the problems concerning global warming and carbon emissions, let us use less of this sources of energy.Avoid wasteful consumptions,Use CFL (compact flourescent lightbulbs), use less on heaters and aircons, do the laundries manually.Avoid loud speakers as much as possible.

well, for one thing,we have freedom of religion here in the usa. It isn't all day.(Just Five times a day) Let's not forget we also have church bells in some churches that ring every hour in some towns.(like mine)As far as setting their wrist watch they have time calendars and clocks at home that tell when it is time to pray.Im sorry, but I would rather listen to someone to pray than the "BOOM BOOM BOXES"that play extremely loud and rock you car windows. Where's the loud ordinances on that?

Any Muslim call for prayer does not last more than 3 minutes. I do not see a problem at all. I think you see this as a threat because a call for prayer does not affect anyone, unless you fear that this religion might spread more (which is true). Muslims do not need this call for prayer to remind them of their duties, but in the days of the Prophet it was done this way (without speakers of course), and that's the main reason why it is done now.

NO! Some have brought up church bells. AFAIK, there are no church bells in my community. If church bells WERE ringing FIVE times a day, every day, including before dawn, you can be damn sure I would oppose it.

Another brought up freedom of religion. Your right to swing your fist ends at the tip of my nose. Muslims, you have NO right to wake me before dawn! If YOU want to wake up that early and pray, set your alarm clocks!

i don't see the problem,i don't believe its noisy at all.In my country ,the church bell rings every Sunday in the early morning when many people are sleeping, why can't christians set the alarm on their wrist watch?.
In my opinion, I don't think these things are noisy at all or that they should be stopped and it's a good thing that people gather to pray.

churches are just as noisy..freedom of religion and all that....

same as neighbors that decide to cut their lawn at 7 am sunday morn...or the hot rod boys that like to flex their musical genius by reving their engines at all hours of the nite...noise comes from many places at the worst(or best) of times...why this one bugging you soooo much. God is being worshipped and he dont mind the noise at all....
