If you want to replace the engine keep the 4.0L as the V8 engines are pieces of crap and they get terrible gas mileage. The 4.0L inline 6 engines are bulletproof and last forever if you take care of them.

Count my voice with the other two here so far. Swapping in a V8 can work, but takes a lot of work. You have to adapt the engine power out, to your exsisting powertrain.

Plus, unless you order a crate engine with all the new items on it, you have a nightmare of making everything fit. (a/c compressor, power steering pump, alternator, etc...) Not to mention the computer mismatch.

Oh, don't forget the motor mounts, or the radiator. All those need to be changed too.

The 4.0 is really a damned good engine, which it's a shame that they aren't being made anymore, and should be enough to run most anything you're wanting to do.

Another option: buy a used Limted, with the bigger engines in them from the factory.

Yes. I would not attempt to install the 4.7. The complexity of computer changes, pulley's mounts cooling and bunches of little things that go with such changes would be a real headache..Could I suggest an easier route?..have your or buy the 4.7 stroker kit for your existing engine. You can buy the complete drop in engine also from Golden Engines or Hesco..but cheaper to build. I have one and YOU WILL LOVE IT and really not significant change in mileage..unless you push it..Ha Ha
