my dog keeps scratching and biting in one spot right in front of his tail?

I need some hint and tips to stop him doing this. He is eatting himself raw.

The above poster may be right, but it also might be a hot spot. Dogs will continue to bite at one area because of the pain & then resulting endorphins it produces. In short, it's almost as if our dogs are like little drug addicts, because they become addicted to the endorphins that are released when they bite at that area. If this is the case, no fleas shampoo can treat the hot spot. I would suggest using a a bitter-flavored spray in the area to prevent your dog from biting it. Over a few weeks it will heal and then your dog will leave it alone.

Bitter sprays are available at any pet store for a few dollars.

Your dog has fleas. The area just above the tail is a common place for them to hang out and it drives the dog nuts! they will rub, gnaw and bite the area until it's devoid of hair and gets scabbed over. Take your dog to the vet if it's already this bad. The vet will make sure it's just fleas and not a skin infection, dip your dog and give you some medication to put on the sore area. You will also want to buy your dog a flea collar, but that alone (at this point) probably won't be enough. If you take your dog to the vet, it should be well in a week or two.

Perhaps that area or spot is infested with lice. I'm sure you know what to do...Or the problem could be really something serious. You said "He's eating himself raw." Perhaps there's something wrong with his nervous system, such that he cannot feel pain. You better consult your vet.

its called a "HOT SPOT" go to the store and find the medicine for it.. for our pup we just break open vitamin e caps and put it on it so she stops it.. they wont stop it..
