i have seen so much rasism in the army, i have talked with white NCOs who call black people the N word when behind closed doors and i have seen black NCOs calling white people white trash behind closed doors, the whole UCMJ system is useless towards this problem and just wanted to know how the situation is being rectified other than someone saying we have no tollerance for rasism in the service?

When I was in the Navy, the only people I ever heard use ""the N word"" were people of a darker hue themselves. I once drummed up the courage to question this, and they said its meaning was behind who said it... it was ok for them but not for me.

Favoritism based on race was rampant on my ship, however, it was neither B or W... in fact, we huddled together to face it off! It was slightly better when I left than when I got there....

There was no serious racism problem in the Army when I was in. Black NCO called them white boys, not white trash or am I dating myself. White trash is not normally racially offensive, it is a description that whites use as well. I noticed you said NCO's used the term behind closed doors. They wouldn't dare do that in my presence even if it were behind closed doors. It can scar your military career to get an inflammatory speech offense in your record.

I really think that you should bring this up with your chain of command or straight to your CMEO or EO manager. The military also has a 1 800 number to call and you can remain anonymous. The military takes racism very seriously and there are plenty of avenues to take to deal with it. My advice is that you need to speak to either your CMEO or EO manager.

i can tell because you were never military cause you have to ask such stupid questions. well, the military is extremely strict with racism. i knew a guy get NJP'd for using the word "oriental"..EO dont play. frankly, its overly PC if you ask me.
also, i cant even say WM without getting the PC police after me.
if you were really military then maybe if you saw EO then it wouldnt be a problem. but i guess youre the type to sit by and let racists talk..EO would end there career. its called predjudicial to good order and discipline. its very serious, even the allegation.

You are confusing free speech with illegal racism.

It is not illegal to be racist.

It is illegal to use your racism in decisions for hiring, treatment in private or public jobs.

You can still say what you want (where it won't affect their job), marry and date who you want, etc.

It will never do anything about that. The military respects the freedoms it fights for.

That doesn't stop you from speaking up when you hear such things.

Did you? Or did you stay silent?

The UCMJ system will never change it. People have to take charge and change them selves.

Sorry, but I am ex-military and I didn't see what you say you have seen. We were all tight. I don't see how racism can exist between folks who are dependant on one another to watch each other's back.

You must live with it. It was like that 36 years ago when I was in the military. It will never change. Just make sure you are a nice man and life will be great. I promise.

i have not seen that and don't really believe you. but if you sat by and watched racism and didn't do anything then shame on you. if you would have said something, they would have burned them.
