Please don't anyone say Christianity. I know that the early church adopted hellfire along with many other teachings but I need to know where from.

God has revealed the reality of Hell prepared fot the Devil and his angels.

Jesus Christ warned more about the dangers of Hell than described the realities of Heaven.

It is all there in the Bible, which you choose to ignore.

The origin was probably from a place called Gehenna which was outside the walls of Jerusalem where they burned the city refuge and rubbish. Fires burned day and night to destroy that which was unwanted. I guess the early church compared hellfire to that place. I suppose they could not think of a better example to use. Remember that most could not read nor write and there was no written biblical text so to speak and they had to use examples of things which they knew the people would have knowledge of. What better example to give then to point out the local rubbish tip, a place where you discard and burn your rubbish, and it did burn night and day. So you tell people they are going to Hell when they die, or (Gehenna). where they will burn for ever. Most biblical writings have an essence of historical significance and truth in them somewhere, it's just gleaning it out that's difficult.

Almost all religions have a version of hell, even those that do not believe in an afterlife but in reincarnation instead. In almost all cases hell is associated with punsihment for sins.

But the christian version of hell most closely resembles the Hades of Ancient Greece. Hades is actually the god of the underworld and the dead, but the Hades stories most closely resenble bibledegook accounts.

Paul W is close to being correct, but has confused Hell / Hades with Gehenna.
Gehenna, after the burning pit outside jerusalem, equates with total destruction.
It is NOT 'Hell'
Because death and Hell/Hades are related and are NOT permanent.
(Revelation 20:14) And death and Ha′des were hurled into the lake of fire. This means the second death, the lake of fire.

The lake of fire IS Gehenna.

And Hell/ Hades is to be cast INTO it.

So it cannot be the same thing.

Tie all this in with;
(Revelation 21:4) And he will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away.”

And the result is that Hell/ Hades is simply the grave.
No death = no graves.= living forever.=
(Psalm 37:11) But the meek ones themselves will possess the earth, And they will indeed find their exquisite delight in the abundance of peace.

A NICE HOPE FOR THE FUTURE.

All false teachings are inspired by the opposer of God,who has made it a mission to try to turn away all humanity from God.

All this fire and brimstone stuff is a pretty accurate description of an erupting volcano. I'd say that's how the myth of hell originated.

I'd like to know why I got so many thumbs down. A question was asked. I gave good bible quotes. Are people looking for stupid answers and just wasting their time or do they need real answers?
