The purpose is to create awareness among us about global warming and to get the leaders of the world's richest nations to sign a treaty...but most people are already aware about global warming, they are just not taking actions to help the environment. and then the performers travel to other countries to perform plus the transportation of props and stuff...don't these contribute to global warming too?!

Isn't it hypocrisy....or what?

dad - you don't get my question don't you.

i'm just saying that,in the process of raising awareness, due to the large scale of the event, they used a lot of energy sources thus also contributing to global warming.

The "Inconvenient Truth" is - yes, it is hypocritical. Most environmental problems stem from overconsumption of resources. Getting Snoop Dogg and his posse to Germany probably consumed more resources than the original Jamestown colony. As a society, we have an overblown sense of self-importance, an unhealthy culture of celebrity, and an unfortunate inability to prioritize the IMPORTANT things in our lives.

The real "truth" is that if we had a better sense of the value of the environment and our need to maintain it, then there would not be "Global Warming" - people would accept it as a natural cycle, or (if the IPCC is right) we would already been living within the capabilities of the Earth to sustain our civilization. My fear is that after this fad has run its course, the rebound effect will result in greater disregard for the environment, and generations will be lost, having been burned by the hype.

"With support from the U.S. Green Building Council, creators of the LEED Green Building Rating System, Live Earth will implement new Green Event Guidelines. All Live Earth venues will be designed and constructed by a team of sustainability engineers who will address the environmental and energy management challenges of each concert site, as well as the operations of sponsors, partners and other Live Earth affiliates. Each venue will not only be designed to maintain a minimum environmental impact, but will showcase the latest state-of-the-art energy efficiency, on-site power generation, and sustainable facilities management practices." -http://www.liveearth.org/event.php

Plus, many of the artists now run their buses on bio diesel, and at many of the venues around the world public transportation options were made available for concert patrons.

Don't shoot the messenger(s). They raised a lot of $, had excepts of green tips, and raised awareness. Did you expect them to converge on horseback?
Funny how people will put down Al Gore and the artists, but no one brings up the thousands of people who drove to attend the concert..........

I agree, it is.

Just like High Priest Gore's home and transportation.

As to the concert, when they do their concerts with 100% solar power for everything, I will believe they really care!!

And if they travel with only the electric cars that only go 40 miles and then have to be recharged for 8 hours, between concerts, I will know for sure they are putting their money where their mouth is, not just their feet!

Yea and I bet few of the artists or production people involved actually dip into their own wallets and give to help this cause or any others.
