For example, If you are familiar with the culture in Mexico,
you'll see that people actually do Worship Mary.
They have Shrines of pure Gold for her, some people get a big rock, put it on their backs, get on their knees and start crawling, shedding blood, until they reach the Shrine.
Roman Catholics in Mexico always say things like Mary has the Power to do miracles, they Pray to her, and Thank her for responding their prayers. There are even stories on how the Statue of Mary walks at night and helps out the poor (Not Joking). Its seems like Mary is the one being Worshiped. Alot of Catholics Churches seem to have all their focus on Mary.
So, why do Roman Catholics get angry at Non-Catholics for saying Roman Catholics worship Mary? When it is evident that they do?
Isnt the Roman Catholic Church "United" as they claim?
Im Not bashing anyone, im just saying the truth about Roman Catholics in Mexico.

Actually "Story Junkie", some churches really pay much attention to Christ. They have ALL their focus on Mary. Sad but true.

Because they are hearing the truth and deep down they know and are ashamed to admit it. Most catholics are only catholic due to family tradition instead of thinking of their afterlife. I was raised catholic and I know for a fact that what you say is true. I am originally from San Diego, California with one parent that is Mexican and yes, Mary is a very big part of the catholic church. I now live in the state of Montana and have left the catholic church and religion. I renounced the catholic religion sometime last year after I got saved. I am now a true born again Bible believing Christian.
Yes, most of my family are still catholics, but some are starting to listen and hear the truth.

You are commiting a logical fallacy by applying individual characteristics to a larger category. It doesn't matter if a Roman Catholic in Pago Pago steals apples - that doesn't mean that all Roman Catholics steal apples. People get angry when they explain their beliefs to you, and then you say, "No, you're lying - I know you worship Mary because I saw a guy in Mexico worship Mary." There are over 3 times more Roman Catholics in the world than the entire population of the United States. The odds are that you are going to find every possible belief and practice represented somewhere at some time.
By the way, I am not a Roman Catholic.

Because it's a false accusation of idolatry, made out of ignorance.

Yes, Catholics do think highly of Mary. But they do not worship her--or at least they're not supposed to. Prayer to Mary is actually a prayer request--no different from asking a friend to pray for you (aside from the fact that your friend is alive and Mary isn't).

What Catholics do in Mexico is not necessarily reflective of Catholics at large. Some cultures are more superstitious than others. And any educated Catholic will tell you that many Catholics are ignorant about their own religion.

> Isnt the Roman Catholic Church "United" as they claim?

I'll take that as a rhetorical question.

I've never encountered any spectacle as you have just detailed but that doesnt mean that such events do not occur. Strong reverance and worship are two completely different things. This is why Catholics grow offended. you are not fully aware of the difference between the two. its not your fault. it can honsetly be difficult to draw the line between respect and frantic worship. the church is united but we are not all the same. the entire Christian religion each has it's own distinct denominations and those denominations all have their own little sects. Some Protestant xhurches are very rigid and formal, while other s are more relaxed and new Age. you cannot honestly tell me that every non-Catholic worship service is the same. if you did i would know you are lying. every religion and denomination has its extremists. you cannot make a statement based solely on one set of observations.

God bless the Mexicans for their excessive and humble love of the Virgin. After all it was Our Lady who intervened on their behalf and converted millions of pagans into the Roman Catholic church by performing an awesome miracle at Guadalupe. The Lord is always pleased with great love and honor shown to His Blessed Mother. The Mexicans are right when they say that Our Lady has been given great power and they are right to show their great love and gratitude to the Woman who bore the Christ in Her Womb.

Why do you confuse this love and honor for worship? Greater services have been performed for kings and queens of this earth and it has not been confused with worship. Mary is the Queen of the saints and angels, Queen of Heaven and earth. Doesnt She deserve the best?

Let's see if I can keep this as simple as possible.

Worship and adoration: God (Father, Son, Holy Spirit).
Veneration: Mary and the Saints.

This is what the Church teaches, in a nutshell. This is what Catholics do. Local customs and folklore aside, many have a very strong devotion to the Blessed Mother. But that does not equal WORSHIP.

Because, that is not what the Chruch teaches. I don't worship her. The original meaning of the word pray was to ask or petition not to worship. We pray directly to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. However, we have all those good friends in Heaven called saints, chief among them is our Blessed Mother and when we pray to her we are asking her to pray for us. That's all.

As far as Shrines of pure gold, it is gold leaf not pure gold.

I might mention in the Old Testament, the queen was always the mother of the King, not his wife. One reason probably because he had more than one wife.

You're not bashing anyone, you're just applying a cultural phenomenon particular to one country to every Roman Catholic in the world, in hopes of causing bad feelings. Number one, why do you even care? Two, would your Jesus ask this question?

Maybe it has something to do with the whole "Thou shalt not put a false idol before your God" gig?

Not that there is anything wrong with Mary; but they're *supposed* to worship God...not a human.

Perhaps they'd be more correct if they merely indicated that they respect Mary.

Unless you have the supernatural ability to read hearts, minds, and souls, or unless an individual has specifically told you they offer latria to Mary, you CANNOT know, and need to stop bearing false witness.

EDIT:
>>"Meg M" im not making False Witness.
Ive seen it with my own eyes!<<

How can you see into someone's soul and know if they are offering latria or hyperdulia?
