In the UK what is the percentage of households that have natural gas appliances? Gas Stove, oven, space heater, clothes dryer, water heater, etc.

Is it mostly all electrics in the UK? Every time I see photos or videos of modern UK, the homes always have an electric cook top. Why does the UK prefer electric appliances over gas appliances? Isn't natural gas cheaper in the UK than using electricity to cook and heat with?

I have all gas appliances possible and I think it is definitly cheaper. However I know quite a few people who don't like the idea of gas cooking appliances feeling they are more dangerous with naked flames!! Could be an issue for some. But also more importantly there are still many areas that do not have access to a gas supply. My Mum's house does not, everyone in the street was asked by the gas board if they would like to contribute together to pay for the cost of installing main lines to a gas supply - in order to go ahead they needed so many people at a couple hundred pounds or so each. Obviously the more people the less cost. however although my Mum was keen most people were not (I suppose due to cost). So this could be another explanation for some.

It could be that more people live in flats and apartments, so electricity is safer in those types of households.

Electricity use depends on the individual. I use electricity, a hot plate type cooker, and cast iron pans (Le Crueseut). By turning the knobs either to a low setting or off completely, 5 minutes before serving food, the food can continue cooking and will remain hot for quite a while afterwards. In the long term this helps cut down on electricity use but does take some getting use to after gas.

I prefer electric cooking because of concerns over whether gas reserves will hold out. I have this vision that the planet will collapse because there will be a huge cavity left when all the gas has been extracted.

I have Gas, dont like electric.

Most people have electric because it is marketed as safe, clean and easy to use when in fact it poses an even more risk to your health than is lead to believe.

Allot of people find installing these Electric cookers easier as theirs far more electricians than gas fitters, that is one thing I found hard to get was a fitter to plumb my cooker in.

Edit: My cooking costs have gone from £200 on Electric a year to £30 with Gas.
