Not at all. We use temp agencies at my work when we have clerical openings. We have offered permanent positions to almost every temp that has come to work for us. I know many people that have had great experiences with temp agencies. The key is to do some research about the temp agency you are thinking of using. Make sure they supply staff in the fields you are interested in.

Not at all. Some have said this before, but temp agencies can get you work when you are totally out of work and these positions can often lead to permanent placements.

Staffing agencies, very often have jobs ready to be filled, but may get a bad rap because they are very selective in the candidates that they present to their client. They have to be because 1) the client pays them and 2) they are usually guaranteeing a replacement candidate if the one they send doesn't work out.

Always put your best foot forward and treat it like a Fortune 500 job interview. Most of the skills of getting the job have to do with attitude and perception, so expect the best and that's often what you'll get.

I used to work through temp agencies but it was quite awhile ago and things may have changed. A few jobs lasted a long time and I was offered several permanent jobs. I really liked the challenge of going into different companies and doing the different types of work. It was good experience but not excellent pay. You will need to be good at what you do and very versatile. The worst part of it was that you had to go thru that new girl cr*p and no one would talk to you for a week so you were usually leaving as they decided to take you to lunch. But then I read a lot. . .

I can hear your feelings about this issue. Sometimes the staffing agency staff can sometimes not be the nicest people. But keep in mind however, that they are in two words "sales people" they have to market themselves to clients in order to get work orders. Sometimes they forget who they are talking with, who are the people that will do work for them, and that they have to be treated with respect. The staff member was right however with one point. Many of the office positions such as administrative assistants, or anything higher in positions, often require life experience as well as book smarts. Maybe possibly, you had the book experience, but not enough of the life experience yet. The type of positions that you should be looking for until you have gained enough experience within an office environment is things like a file clerk, general office clerk, office assistant, or something like this. These jobs are able to show you how the office functions and will introduce you to many of the tasks that go onto become an admin assistant. I have been in the office field for almost 10-15 part time years and I still to this day have not gotten a job as an administrative assistant. The positions that I have mentioned above will give you exposure to filing, to creating documents such as letters etc., on the computer, to dealing with the public on the phone and in person, setting up appointments for people, using the general office equipment, and so on. The administrative assistant positions require you to very knowledgeable in all of the entry level office jobs, as the admin assistant is the link between entry level and experienced office professional staff. I think that you would probably have better luck if you were to go to a staffing agency place, and ask for a file clerk, general office clerk, or office assistant position. They are still quite varied, and will give you the "life" experience portion within this field in order to handle the more executive levels within the office environment. Also, another point on temp and employment agencies, is the fact that they should be listening to you the potential worker. If you're uncomfortable working in a particular environment, they should listen to you, and if you cannot get anything from them, then it would be best for you to find a temp agency that is willing to listen to you. I highly doubt that if you go to another one within that agency, that you wouldn't get the same response or attitude. It could be the way that company deals with things. Also even better yet, go around to each individual company in the areas that you would like to gain exposure in, and hand in resumes to them if they are hiring, or anticipating hiring. Make sure that you dress in clothes that you're ready to be interviewed in, and also ask to talk to the manager. Temp and employment agencies as well as advertised jobs, count only for about 10% of the jobs out there, there are a lot that are unadvertised. I hope that this helps you.

Absolutely not! Staffing agencies have direct contact with the hiring managers and directly submit your resume to the inbox of the company looking to hire a candidate. Your resume is not presented through a database (this would happen when you submit it on your own) thus is guaranteed to be reviewed. Agencies also have the 411 on what to expect in an interview, hints on what they may ask, etc. This is actually what I do and if you want someone to keep their eyes and ears open for you - why not try? It's free and can only benefit you. I just don't recommend the agencies that give you 3 hours tests and bunch of paperwork.

temp agencies suck, but are a legitimate way to find a job. I have a really good job today thanks to working for a temp agency. They place you in positions where you can get a feel for different jobs, and when you find a job you like, you go to the company and apply for it. It's pretty ruff while your looking for the job, but it does work. It's not the best way to go perhaps, especially since they pay less, but the whole idea is that it is temporary.

TA's are horrendous, what they do should be illegal. The lying, deceit and games they play. I have been looking for full time work for the past 11/2. I'm with 40 agencies in Ohio and they do is lure you in with lies. Every agency is the same, " oh we don't any anything right now but give us a call next week". Same ****. Horrible people I swear they make commission on applicants piss

"Temp" or "staffing" agencies provide a wide-range of job opportunities so that you can experience and taste a variety of jobs in a short timeframe. And you can arrange the work around your personal schedule, so there's more time for shopping and socializing.

Good luck!

Big businesses rely on temp agencies, it saves the company time and money from going out themselves to hire someone.

That is how I got my last job, also they will look at our strengths, weaknesses, and ask you where you want to go.

Its the best way to get a job or start a career after graduating from college, or when starting your life in a new town/city.
